Bantry Bay trail construction starts.

Good news! NPWS's Bantry Bay mtb trail construction is underway at last. Phase 1 is the single track off the Curry Rd fire trail. The more technical leg on the eastern side will be phase 2.

Some trails have been closed, such as the link to the Forestville Park rugby fields that run over the rock with the aboriginal carvings. Please respect these closures as failure to do so will jeopardize negotiations for future trails, as has already happened with Oxford Falls trails on Aboriginal Land Council land.

An alternate link trail corridor has been determined by Warringah Council but it is unfunded. Will announce more info on ways we can help move this forward soon.

That's great news. I've never been into Bantry bay but looking forward to riding there when this is finished.

in that they have started the trails in the bush but there is no funding for a link trail from Manly dam, or are you referring to a link trail to the other side of BAntry Bay?

This is great news. Can't wait to ride these trails!

Re Manly Dam there's two ways to link Manly Dam into Forestville Park.

One is ridable but goes over a large rock shelf where there are a couple of aboriginal engravings; pretty cool actually.

There is another that isn't ridable. My understanding is that this, or something parallel to it, will be made ridable in order to properly link the two sides of the new Bantry Bay trails.

Correct, Dan. The one that goes over the carvings is either now closed or soon will be and it is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that riding it ceases. Riding it is frowned upon quite severely because of the heritage nature of the carvings.

The second one is I believe the unfunded corridor. I will confirm.

We are hoping to get some input from the trail contractor on a suitable trail alignment within that corridor with a view to putting a proposal to Council to build it with volunteers.

The idea is to use the contractors experience to design a line that will maximise the experience for that section.
