Got a 20mm Rockshox Maxle on a 2006 set of Pikes....and they rock.

I have now got a Maxle that doesn't want to come out of the front wheel, and is extremely frustrating!
The non lever end spacer plug is not letting go and so the Maxle is still expanded. The plug does have a small notch in it from years of usage, but up until recently I haven't had to remove the wheel as often.

The only way to get it out is :
completely remove the 'non-lever' end cap
remove the skewer
poke into hole of spacer plug in end till it pops out
then remove the Maxle

Anybody else had probs like this?
Know anywhere where you can get old parts like these?
Anybody swapped a Maxle for a Maxle Lite successfully?

Thanks

Just an idea, but why don't you put some grease on the offending plug to allow it to more easily slide back when released.

jpack, I will give this a go for sure...anything would help.

I am a bit worried about the fine Pilbara dirt getting in there, but that just means I will have to actually do some maintenance!!

Thanks

A dry chain lube should be enough, however I had the same problem with the same axle.

Once my bearings got a tiny bit of rust on them it was near impossible to get the axle out. I had to swap out my bearings but this may not be your problem.

Thanks fairy1....I did try a little bit of Prolink lube, but no real change. I will definitely give it a go with some grease or Squirt.

Out of interest, was it a pain changing the bearings? job for self or shop?

Thanks

Not really, just slide a flat blade screwdriver throughuntil it rests on the inner race and give the driver a bump with a hammer then move to the other side and give another gentle tap and it should pop out.

The biggest issue is damaging the new bearing on assembly, if you can't find a way to press it in without contacting the seal or inner race it's a job for the LBS. I just used a bit of threaded rod some nuts, washers and a socket to pull the new bearing in.

I just checked both of my Maxles, I have a Maxle from a 2007 Magura fork and a 2010 Totem. The Totem one was a Maxle Lite I belive and it threads in fine but is far too wide for the other fork. I think the new Maxle Lite's are different to mine.
