CRC "sales"..

Has anyone noticed CRC's high RRP values on some sale items?

Needed to buy a part (not available in AUS), ended up on CRC.

I always keep my eyes open for bargains and they are currently running a "50 unbeatable" deals promotion, with very high discounts, calculated against their RRP prices.

Not going to go into details, check for yourself, then go check some other sites for their comparison prices and RRP values.

unbeatable? really..??

Have noticed it several times and it has raised an eyebrow on those occasions. On those occasions the CRC RRP has not, in any way, resembled reality. At least not any reality that I have encountered on numerous other sites while doing comparisons or when checking the manufacturer's RRP.

While I am happy to believe that it may be the result of some automated and erroneous markups being applied in their backend systems, it does give them considerable scope to claim that they are applying very large discounts on those items. Ironically, those items are sometimes still cheaper on other sites.

If you are concerned and/or believe the CRC RRP is being deliberately inflated to provide scope for a larger than otherwise possible discount, then you should contact the ACCC. This practice is illegal in Australia and even though they are based in the UK, the fact that they sell into Australia means they are subject to a range of Australian consumer laws. Or you could contact the ABC TV show "The Checkout" and give them some material for their next series Smiling

FWIW, while I check online pricing every now and then, I have only purchased bike stuff from an overseas seller once and that was from Wiggle. One item was cheaper than CRC and the other item was not sold by CRC.

I've found their RRP is broadly reflective of bricks and mortar retail store prices. Except for Clarence St Cyclery who are consistently RRP *plus* 20%.

If CRC're saying RRP rather than was/now like some of those dodgy jewelery chain stores that have been prosecuted by the ACCC, then it may be difficult to take action. Besides, they're in a different jurisdiction so out of reach of Australian authorities.

Wiggle.com.au may be a different matter with their Oz domain name, but they tend to be less aggressive with this kind of thing and with their mooted opening of an Australian headquarters and support of Australian cycling charities (eg AGF) seem to me to be better corporate citizens.

Are notorious for that as well.Whilst i have got some absolute bargains from them they constantly over inflate the RRP of things, particularly complete bicycles.

To be honest, the last few online purchases I've made have come from Evans Cycles & Ribble. Evans in particular look like they are trying to lift their game. You sometimes just can't beat the range on offer from the big boys like Wiggle & CRC though.

I have to say, I find T7 a little mixed. Often great pricing but also often let down by their range.

As always, it pays to shop around as the OP says.

I ditched T7 a few years ago. Got tired of the constant bombardment of their weekly (not so) specials every couple of days, and their patchy stock availability. It seems they pick on stock runouts for soon-to-be-superceded models of the major brands. At least they did up until I stopped buying there.

Their back/white/grey summer weight L/S jersey has been a summer mainstay for me though - keeps the sun off without getting too hot. Its been probably one of my best value for money purchases ever. Bummed that I put a hole in it three weeks ago.
