Note that this ride is Cancelled.
When:
Sunday, 15 November, 2015 - 09:00
Duration:
6 hours
Come Rain or Shine:
If it's raining, I won't be there.
Ride Database Entry:
Kinross State Forest
Meeting Point:

The city of Orange is around 4 hrs from Sydney and 3 hrs from Canberra. Kinross State Forest is situated on the northeast edge of town, a 10 minute drive or 20 minute ride from the Orange town centre.

Meet at the Bulgas Road carpark, Western edge of the forest.

Drive out from Orange on the Ophir Rd, before you reach the rubbish tip, turn right onto Bulgas Rd. Follow this about 2km to the forest (the road turns to gravel).

Note that the 'Directions there' google maps link below may not give the best route/destination. It seems that google maps ignores Bulgas Rd when selecting a route and gives the next closest spot. The 'Meeting point' link should be correct.

Details:

Focused on fun, high quality trail riding, this new enduro event will appeal to our regular competitors and those into Enduro-style racing. We hope to make this more than just a race against the clock, it's about creating the same vibe as if you were out trail riding with your mates - but with racing, bragging rights, and prizes thrown into the mix. It's not all about chasing split seconds, we're going to make sure you have a good time whether you're at the pointy end or if it's your first enduro event!

We’ve modelled this series on the format of the Enduro World Series. We plan to have a point to point course made up of around 5 timed sections and numerous liaison or cruising stages which competitors can ride at a relaxed pace with their mates and dozens of new mates. The liaisons won’t just be firetrail bashing either, we plan to make these as fun as the timed sections but without the pressure of racing. It’s all about good times!

Orange, the capital of the central west has an abundance of great riding! Our Singletrack Mind Series has been to Kinross State Forest 3 times and the stoke factor has been huge! There’s also trails on the slopes of the 1,395m peak of Mt Conobolas, while we’ve yet to ride the trails, the local trail fairies tell us they’re epic!

Shame. Would have been fun.

We were so excited about launching the Good Times Enduro Series this year and it was clear that you guys were too! And so it is with great disappointment that we announce that this inaugural series will not be happening in 2015; at least, not as a series. We're still hopeful of pulling off one race!

We've fallen victim to that old idiom "Best laid plans ..." and here's how it happened. We had three venues lined up: Mogo in June, Taree in October, and Orange in November. In April we discovered that Taree was slated to undergo logging in October. We considered swapping locations and dates, but on further discussion with the club decided to leave Taree as a venue for this year but move the Mogo date to October when Taree would have been. So we'd be racing in Mogo in October, and Orange in November.

Upon applying to the Forestry Corp a couple of months ago for a permit for Mogo in October, we were advised that, due to a change in policy on authorisation to race on singletrack within State Forest, plus a new logging schedule, there could be no race in the Maulbrooks Road area in October. Forestry advised that they plan to rehabilitate the trails to bush and no racing or riding can take place on the singletrack! Needless to say discussions are being had, and whether or not this is the eventual outcome, the story at the moment is that the area is currently being logged, but the trails are all still there and open for riding (however directional signage has been removed). There is trucking activity along one of the main fire trails adjacent to the legendary Snake Track so please take care if you are riding there. The Eurobodalla Cyclists are really disappointed not to be welcoming riders to the first gravity enduro to be run in the area, but we are all hopeful that by next year there'll be a suitable location to run an enduro at Mogo!

So, onto Orange. Scheduled for 15 November, one of the key organisers from Orange MTB Club has had an unanticipated clash of dates so we are currently in discussions regarding an alternative date - watch this space!
