The Oaks Fire Trail has undergone a radical grooming and widening with barely a loose rock to be found between the trail head and the single track. It was described by one rider as being a highway.

From the Woodford Gate to the Helipad the trail is sandy however due to the damp conditions it rolled pretty well. Definite PR conditions, however if the surface dries out it’s going to be a pretty hard slog.

Many of the corners are soft making line choice very important when descending at speed.
I would recommend riding with a front mud guard and decent protective glasses, the amount of sand being thrown up off my front tyre was very uncomfortable.

From the Helipad to the Single Track was slow and heavy due to the wet clay mud surface. For the most part it was fairly smooth and pretty solid (only a few soggy/deep bits), however riders coming up said it was a hard slog on the slow track.

The first stretch of single track was as per usual, the second bit (the new bit) was still in reasonable condition – TBH I’m not sure why they are shutting it for track work?
The road back up to the start of the single track was in perfect condition making it an easy climb for a big unit like me.

Tomorrow is the last chance to ride the single track for a month – see post here.
