no on trail status

G'day, I'm wondering about the trail status indication on the front page, is the information about trail status from riders or sourced from the local councils?

It's community based from other riders

In the case of Council- club- or other authority-run trails like Manly Dam, Old Man's Valley, Wylde, Mt Annan, Yellowmundee, and others, it will usually be on the basis of official statuses as well.

While you may disregard the views of other riders for other trails without fear of fines or bike confiscations or other legal sanctions, it's being pretty selfish to go and ride them when the status says "red".

It only takes a few passes by bikes in boggy conditions to do as much damage as tens of thousands of passes by riders in dry conditions. Having done a few trail maintenance days I can say from experience it takes an enormous amount of work to rectify that damage.

It would be great to have all-weather single trails in Sydney we could ride regardless of weather, but unfortunately our soils just don't lend themselves to it in the absence of the usage of extensive rock armouring, which is hideously expensive.

Please respect the trails, and respect the trail statuses posted here.

If no one heads out to a trail when the status here shows red how will we ever know it ok to turn it to green.....

Just jokes.

But the trail status signals here are only a ruff guide. A bit of common since and self control is needed. If it's been wet chances are it's a good idea to avoid most trails in the Sydney basin.
If you head out to a trail and find the condition worse then you had hoped/expected show some self restraint and turn around.
