CHeck out the new LED from cree. 4 times the output over the current LED. Man that is going to burn some retinas out!!!!

Holy crap! 400 lumens at 350ma!
When it comes out I'm going to run it at 1000ma and just have one LED!

Just like the other XR-E when they first came out, these are 700mA limit.

The whole point of this, of course, is that you only need 1 emitter (it's actually 4 separate ones in the same package) and therefore 1 lens. Cheaper, smaller. Don't forget, because it's 4 emitters you need more voltage drop too.

This will run hot mind... lucky I have some old CPU heat sinks lying around!

My mate has bought a few of these, http://www.luxeonstar.com/item.php?id=5537&link_... .

I am waiting on some sample ICs to build the current source, he can sought out the battery and heat sink.

That Luxeon looks good, until you read this:

Standard Fraen and L2 lenses are NOT compatible with this LED. Lenses are not currently available.

should I wait till these puppies are out then? hmm....
