I didn't realise you were doing solo this year Alchemist! I don't know the names of any particular part of the track only having been there once, but I think the downhill section I referred to maybe Hammerhead? I would be surprised if they would put this in for the 24hr as I'm quite sure I wouldn't have enough strength left in my arms to ride it after 18 hrs and I think the night laps would bring a few unstuck in this area.
Cheers John.

alchemist's picture

The Hammerhead is the the descent at the top of the WC course - it wont be in the course. I did have the 24 hr track pointed out to me, but I've forgoten most of it. I've got a feeling at least part of Western Wedge Tail (Beginner Down hill) will be in. If you are getting arm pump down there you either need to soften your forks a bit and/or relax a little more.

Carlgroover's picture

Would it also be because I was using my Anthem and being a XC race bike does put a lot of weight on the wrists when descending by the 6th lap my arms were burning from half way down that section and slowing me down, possibly I was trying to crush the bars to death, I'll lookout for that next time round, thanks
John.

**** Press Release ****

Team Hairy R's has been finalised and will be contesting the 40+ mixed catergory at the CORC24.

This team of 6 dedicated, focused and experienced racers will be utilising a strict regime of hydration, mid-race relaxation, eating dead animal products and a touch of blood doping in an attempt to eclipse their CORC24 lap record.

The following team is chock full of 24 hour race veterans and one who claims to be a virgin.
Andy Collins
Scott Morelli
Chris Jobses
James Thomas
Christine Carter, and
Paul Smith

If you want to be a part of Team Hairy R's success, apply now as we are looking for various support team staff such as a masseuse, a mechanic, a chef and a beer wench.

Happy 40th Christine Sticking out tongue

Paul's picture

The CORC uses the average age of all riders when complying for an age category and given my age and that of my mates we would still make the 40+ team even if Christine was born in 1986 instead of 1980.

kfalloon's picture

Hi if anyone is looking for a rider to complete their team for the CORC 24 hour please let me know.

We had a 4 man team - two had to pull out and one broke his ribs last weekend at the Dam.

I am an average rider and recently bought a lighter bike and lights for the 24 hour. I've also been training each day.

Regards,

Keith

evan's picture

Hiya Keith,

Just PMed you.

Cheers
Evan

Carlgroover's picture

Could anyone doing solo at the Scott please confirm it here as we may be able to get a number of premium spots beside each other.
Cheers John

Who is the diehard Specialized rider who has bought a Cannondale Rize and is keeping it very quiet.

Will he be bringing it to the CORC?

Is it the same person who is contemplating selling a Specialized?

Time to do some organising....

Solos have prealocated 8x5m spaces near transition (beside the criterium track).
From what I have found out so far, everyone else is either in the car park, or up on the hill

So.... Carl Groover will be tacksidem, and the rest of us will be on the hill.
We need to get a nice big area for the many teams, tents and cars.
I will have my usual huge tarp, and steve01 is taking his gazebo.

I'm going down on Friday, would like to meet there with someone else to help secure 'our' area.
Currently looking at leaving around 10am to be there at 1'ish, but could leave at 9 if someone else is too.

Any suggestions on layout, logistics etc?
W.

Paul's picture

Whisperer, the Hairy R's are having their 1st and only team meeting of Wednesday so I will let you know afterwards, but our usual practice is to leave around 8.00 or 9.00 am Friday morning, so I could help you rope off an area.

If last year is any indication we will need a very large area to accomodate us all.

i know i am a rare attendee (which i should change) at any nomob formal rides but phil mathewsen (little short scottish bloke..just like me) and i are riding the CORC and i would be happy to be considered as a nomob team: he has done many 24hr rides; me none. To entice me, he told me that we were going to be a 4 man team but guess what.....suckered ! Phil then says 'not enough riding for me in a 4 man team !!!" Done a few 100km rides but never done a 'lap race" .............I can feel the pain now..help

pikey's picture

your a goose Eye-wink

You cannot possibly drink beer and race if your in a two man team. Unless you are the support crew for your mate.

enjoy anyway.

yes you are NoBMoB, come and say hello

no beer for me on a sat night...who would have thunk it ?! Btw, our team name is 'the Arbroath Smokies" (for all you aussies, this is a highly esteemed type of kipper in Scotland !)
we will come and say hello on Sat Cheers and good Luck to all !

delicious's picture

I'm very familiar with Arbroath smokies and I can state with confidence they are quite delicious.

christine's picture

pop over to the Hairy Rs and have a beer anyway - you will need it

Harry's picture

While our captain is on holiday and not able to do this, on his behalf, is anyone interested in joining the snoring 40's team. We have registered as a team of 6 and are now one short, please PM or call me if interested.

Paul's picture

Stuart - they are calling your name

Stuart M's picture

isn't a chance that I will let such a beautiful machine as The Viper be associated with anyone, over forty or not, that thinks a weekend away riding should include prosciutto and tofu, without even a mention of brie with quince paste.

Besides I'm holding out for the invite to fill the hole in your team created when one of your mates found out you had asked that nurse to make up the numbers

Paul's picture

Likewise, I think the Boring Forties are a little soft and their try-hard menu lacks symmetery and panache.

We at the Hairy R's have decided to go minimalist and restrict our weekend to Bikes, Beer, Bacon, Bread, Beef, Bawdy Ballads, Belching and Berocca.

ar_junkie's picture

Sounds about right...
Eye-wink

Paul's picture

I think the Berocca comes before the Belching

Camping areas - http://www.corc24hour.com.au/cms/uploads/park/ca...

Whisperer's picture

Hi All,
I propose the following area for 'base camp'.

Somewhere in the highlighted zone, depending on when the first people get there and can rope off an area.
This seems faily handy, we can drive our cars in (or leave them by the dirt road if you prefer).

Corc24-2008-Camping

delicious's picture

You reading this, Ev? What do you think? I'm all for camping en masse. If Whisperer wishes to lead the charge then that's fantastic. I plan to head there the moment I leave work which could very well be 5pm and I'll get jammed in the joyous M5 traffic. Be there by 10 then.
You have my vote Whisperer, that's a fine location.

GAZZA's picture

sounds good to me. i think people should load up each others phone numbers just to save last minute hysteria and panic. its much more fun when we're all together and its makes a more pleasurable weekend. oh, and dont forget your ear plugs if youre a light sleeper!

evan's picture

Agree with Whisperer. Its greta when we can camp all together.
I'm not sure how I'm getting down to Canberra at the moment and at what time.

Cheers
Evan

Carlgroover's picture

The best ones will go fast as the locals will setup with a bit of gear and then go home for the night, I'm hoping to leave very early Friday morning and after sorting my solo spot, will help with the NoBMoB camp and I think this will need a few of us as it would be hard for one or two guys to reserve a quarter acre!
Cheers

Paul's picture

With any luck our lead night rider will be working in Canberra on Thursday and will go the track on the way to reserve an area.

To help them;
Does anyone have any idea of the dimension of the area we will need to reserve for NOBMOB village?
What is the best way to reserve an area?
Does anybody know if you can park next to your camp area or do we have to transport the gear from the car to the camping area?

Paul's picture
Whisperer's picture

I spoke to one of the organisers, and it is 'okay' to reserve areas up to 10m*10m.
On that basis I recon we need two. (If anyone else can work out more acurately than a wet finger in the air method I'd like to hear)
You can drive cars into the area.
Recommended way to stake out an area is to get some stakes (like half tomatoe stakes) and use some sort of tape.
I got a 100m roll of pink tape from bunnings for ~$6, that I've been using for the 8 hr events.
Any safety tape or similar would do, but if we have a specific colour (say pink) it's easy to identify.
I guess whoever is there on Thursday can pace out the areas to the 'recommended' dimensions and tape it.
W.

Carlgroover's picture

Could also be pegged straight on the ground to reserve a spot. I think that we'll need more space for the 29 posted riders and some extra friends/family that may also be coming, that's a lot of tents.
John.

GAZZA's picture

bringing a one man tent instead of the "taj mahal" i normally bring so could probably set up between two normal tents without a problem. i suppose we all have to play it by ear and hope for the best.

christine's picture

i need to know how to 'pace out 10m x 10m' bearing in mind i am not called Blondie by you lot for nothing! I have been armed with red and white bunting tape and metal things which i assume will need to be hammered into the ground
who is arriving first from you lot so i can contact that person with either good or bad news regarging the reservation?
when are they letting people in anyway?

gooo maaannlllyyy forty nil, forty nil forty nil

did mention....

forty nil forty nil FORTY NILLLLLLLLLLLL Smiling

Whisperer's picture

Christine,
I'll be heading down Friday morning, ETA 11-12
Bruce and Evan same (ETA 12)
Groover possibly earlier, but he will need to set up his solo space first.

Give me a call and I'll talk you through stepping out 10 big steps by 10 big steps Smiling

(Give me a call anyway and I'll talk about what we are looking for in space for tents, tarps and cars & accesas).

I've made some stakes and written nobmob (in big letters) on them, so need to get these to you before you go.

W.

christine's picture

10 big steps of yours would be 20 of mine...
thank you! Smiling

lozza6's picture

You can reserve us a 20 by 20 paced square Smiling

You know.... one of those equilateral rectangle thingomabobs Sticking out tongue

heard about you and your drinking on the weekend!!!

can you back it up with a story of your footy finals fever evening

Morgan's picture

98.4251969 hands to ten linear metres.

Therefore, just imagine 6 and a half 15 hand horses lying side by side on the ground and you've got your 10 metre marker. Of course, you'll have to make your way thru all the flies and the smell, but that's the country for ya.

I will be there about midday to set up for the Snorers.

Team lists and final instructions are up

Morgan - I still think we will place higher than your team (that's a challenge and yes we only have 5 riders too)
