Submitted by Whisperer on Mon, 28/07/2008 - 16:02.
When:
Sun 24 Aug (08:00) - for approx. 8 hours

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Rain or Shine:
I'll be there, no matter what the weather.
Meeting Point:

Uriarra Road, just up from the Uriarra Road/Coppins Crossing Road turnoff.

Show on Google Maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

Details:

The final 8 Hour for the BMC Working Week Series for 2008 is at Stromlo, and it is indeed a part of the Nissan UCI World Cup Festival - in fact, it's the very first event of the Festival (one week beforehand)!

It's a bit of a hike, but NobMoB has had some good results in the previous rounds, and the 8 hr format is really good fun.

I'm planning on heading down Sat arvo with Groover, camping overnight.

This will be good preparation for the Scott 24, getting to know the track, logistics, camping etc.

Who's in:
Whisperer, alchemist, Bruce, Steve 01, Carlgroover, Mick (6 riders)

Red Loop?

Submitted by Rob on Wed, 30/07/2008 - 15:07.

Alchemist said he envisages this will not be the same course the World Cup XC riders will race the following week - instead he guesses something like 24hr red loop.

Erm... so is that the flat lap or the hilly one?

red loop is hilly one

Submitted by leximack on Wed, 30/07/2008 - 15:52.

the red loop is the one where it climbs up stromlo (to the observatory thing) and then comes back down again
Its the more fun of the 2 loops

Solo?

Submitted by Rob on Wed, 30/07/2008 - 19:30.

Hmmmmm... I initially thought you were mental Whisperer, but perhaps not. 2 weeks out from the Doctor it might be time to TTFU and try a WWS solo myself. The climb-ee red loop will be good training for said event, if a little ouchie.

Any teams going who could possibly help out as support crew?

Woo hoo

Submitted by Carlgroover on Sun, 10/08/2008 - 21:24.

Should be good getting a few laps in down at Stromlo before the Scott24. Keen on the car pooling plan Steven as I'd be worried about driving back alone after a hard 8hr race.
Cheers John.

Nervously signed up for the solo as prep for the Angry Doctor. Sold it to the wife and kids as a weekend in Canberra for the Science Festival (may pay for that later). Doubt I will ride the full 8 hours but will be happy with anything over 6 hours.

Logistics

Is everyone going down on Saturday?
I'm keen to have spin on the old Mt. but might have something on Saturday evening so an early start on Sunday is on the cards....

Yep

Submitted by Bruce on Mon, 18/08/2008 - 09:00.

Stromlo logistics

Submitted by Whisperer on Wed, 20/08/2008 - 17:09.

Heading down Saturday too, leaving Penrith area 1pm, taking Groover
We'll set up a tarp area as we've done for each of the previous events, pink bunting tape 'as usual'!

We'll be camping.
Anyone else camping? I'm looking for someone with a stove for coffe and hot porridge in the morning! - Update: Groover has a one burner stove he will bring.

Stromlo - Sunday

Submitted by Mick on Mon, 18/08/2008 - 11:29.

Any chance of hooking up with you guys on the Sunday? I'm heading down with the fam on the Saturday but would be good to meet up with someone on race day.

Always welcome!

Submitted by Whisperer on Mon, 18/08/2008 - 11:45.

We (Nobmobers)pretty much always set up a tarp trackside at these events, and we encourage other nobbers to join us. It's a pretty fun atmosphere, although this time it's going to be pretty quiet with all the solo riders.
Give one of us a call on Saturday evening for directions.

Thanks Whisperer

Can you PM me your mobile and I'll get in touch with you on the Saturday. Cheers, Mick

Stromlo NobMob Cowbell

Submitted by Hans on Tue, 19/08/2008 - 23:17.

Whisperer, Mick et al...

Our whole family will be there too to follow the event. Originally I wanted to go camping with my oldest at Cotter dam but have now changed the accomodation to a hotel as I will bring the whole family. My 3 bike-mad boys (7, 10, 12) want to see Sam Hill etc...

Benji and I will come for a ride if possible - no preference (Sparrow Hill or Majura) while the rest of the family will go to the Science festival/Questacon , so we'll move independently.

Also keen to catch up with the NobMob clan somewhere, if possible.

Happy to discuss further...

Thx Hans (mobile on my profile)

Happiness is a warm shock.

Hans, see you there

Submitted by Mick on Wed, 20/08/2008 - 14:45.

Hans, see you at Stromlo, although as Whisperer pointed out it is likely to be a quiet base camp with pretty much everyone doing the solo I think. I'll be doing family activities at the Science Festival on the Saturday so may also run into you at one of the venues. Still hoping to join you for the Manly Dam social ride but will depend on how I pull up after my Thursday morning ride - still trying to shrug a cold. Cheers, Mick

John, Mick

thanks for the post - indeed I had mixed up the threads - this refers to the World Cup @ Stromlo next week 30 August. Our boys will be there with cowbells for Sam.

Stromlo Profile?

Submitted by Mick on Mon, 25/08/2008 - 12:49.

Hey Whisperer,

Well done yesterday. Great ride, although my body is now screaming for a break, especially after the 2 offs on the last lap. Do you have the stats for the day - ie distance and elevation? Cheers, Mick

Profile looks painful

Submitted by Carlgroover on Mon, 25/08/2008 - 13:02.

The course was certainly punishing but exciting and fast for the 2nd half, the first half is all up. There was only one category for solo riders so I'm happy with 25th from 118. Bruce did really well he managed to finish the 8hr race in only 5h 23m. Smiling
John.

Well done Whisperer

Submitted by Mick on Mon, 25/08/2008 - 14:12.

25th out of 118 is a bloody good effort. Don't know how you managed that 9th lap. Thanks for posting the profile. See you in Mogo. Mick

Sorry, getting the AKAs mixed up
