For anyone interested, or with nothing better to do, the next build day is on this sunday (17th August) at 8am.

The following is from a club email.

Hi all track builders!

I am sure you have by now heard that the track construction has been progressing very nicely. We have had some keen volunteers turning up and landing a helping hand, so much thanks must go out to all that have assisted so far. Unfortunately it has been the same faces and we will burn them out pretty quickly without your help.

It's now time for you to pitch in and give us a hand to put the final touches on Stage 1! With approx 2.5km of trail virtually open we can then start to ride it in and even run some short track racing in the near future. We have been dividing the crew up into a couple of groups, building bridges, slashing the undergrowth and raking in other sections.

What we really need now is people on shovels, matticks, rakes to cut in some tricky creek crossings, berms and switchbacks. Adam Smitson is purchasing some Mcleods tools for those that don't have equipment so come and help even if you don't have any gear. I am taking my bike to this one and hopefully you will too, because with a morning of hard work I reckon that we will be hitting the trails by the afternoon!!!!

Don't Forget that our club won't be able to race next year if this trail is not open! With it's World Trails design and some awesome country we will have a track that will be the envy of all on the East coast!

Don't hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions as I am happy to assist in any way! Spread the word to those that may not be on this mailing list.

As stated, bring your bikes for a bit of a spin on the new trail in the arvo.

And a few pics of the trail built today. Trail so far is green on the map.

In the not to distant future we want to put on a BBQ and ride day to ride in the new trail, keep looking for more info.

A couple of the crew got out for a spin this afternoon and seemed to love the trail. Still needs a few tweeks, but looking good.

awesome work! very excited, any word on the dh being incorporated into this bbq day? are chains still up most of the time?

Lenny_GTA's picture

Chains are still up until we work out another way to control moto's. We also want to try and make the DH trail a little safer, without reducing the technical aspect of it. Big ask, but thats the aim.

If you've got suggestions that would be great, but other than the chains, we can't come up with anything better.

Hopefully when the XC is done, there will be more mtb people in the area and that will be enough to deter the moto's from trying to ride the trail...........I hope.

I haven't posted any shots here for a while, so here is a bit of an update, I'll post some other shots of the trail later on.

Pretty productive day today from a small crew. I suspect the cold, windy and eventually wet weather turned people off. In the end though, we got a heap of work done.

We started off rerouting the first section of trail, instead of dropping straight into the creek, the trail now is about 200m longer and winds its way down the slope. Much more flowing trail, unfortunately no pics. The line out of the creek has been reworked as well. We hope the reroute makes the trail not only more fun, but also less prone to the impacts of braking.

We then moved onto the new bridge. Its finished and the first part of the loop is completely rideable, in a loop. around 2.5km's around the loop. We will have a 5-6km loop very soon, just need to finish the next two creek crossings.

Line into the bridge.

The temp after lunch, I thought we were only a week out from summer, I don't remember temps like this during winter this year.

Next build day is for Saturday January 24 starting at 7:30.

I'll post a map later to show late comers where we will be. Work has also been done in the last week on some of the off camber bits in the existing loop to make them a bit more flowing.

Hopefully at the next build day we can complete the next section of trail.

For those who haven't seen it, some helmet cam footage of the open sections of trail.

You guys are doing an amazing job up there and wondered how it would go if we posted the trail work day with a guided tour afterwards? We all will benefit from this project and feel the noble amongst us would like to help out.
Cheers John.

The build days are normally a half day affair so people can ride afterwards (after all, we are building the trails to ride, so lets ride them).

If anyone wants a guided tour, let me know and we can try and line something up.
