Sponsorship

Do you you think anyone would want to sponsor a mature (in years only) chap like me?

Rob's picture

Maaaate. I already gave you a tee shirt - what more do you want!? Eye-wink

Erm... on a more serious-ish note - you podium in many events so I can't see why not. More mature riders have more $$$ to spend on bikes than kids, and a role model such as yourself shows how long one can ride into their otherwise twilight years. Surely these are points that any shop or manufacturer should be wanting to promote and be associated with?

Carlgroover's picture

I'm very proud to announce I am now sponsored by Jetblack products and will be showing off the new Pivot 429, To say I'm happy is an under statement.

there's something in the water up there!(and its not what johns son told me either) well done mate!

delicious's picture

From the time you asked about sponsorship to the time you anounced your JetBlack deal eleven minutes elapsed. My, that was some fast negotiations. Well done, mate.

Paul's picture

Mateeee, you must be happy like a pig in sh*t, that awesome and well deserved.

Just curious though, won't the suspension play havoc with the chain tension when you convert it to a SS to really prove how tough you are by winning the 24hr as a SS.

Saturday evening (7/2) we are doing you Oaks Up and Back, with any luck we may get to check out that bad boy.

Carlgroover's picture

than that, as for the SS 24 I'm saving that for when I'm in super Masters Eye-wink
I'm doing the 8hr the next morning so better save the legs as I'm teamed up with Steve01 and LadyToast.

Glad you were given a real man's bike as if you picked a girly Cannondale or Specialized you'd be out of the Lap Dancers

Guys & Gals you are really making me feel like a celebrity, and here with me now is the Pivot 429 in the alloy, gotta go now cause Alex is here and is rushing me to go ride. Smiling
Thanks Guys.

GAZZA's picture

dont you own a specialized?????????

Supagav's picture

Well John as your main supporters, all of NoBMoB that is, We expect a first impression ride review tonight. I am very keen to hear what you think of the new bike..

Steve 01's picture

do own a Specialized But I would never trust it off road

Carlgroover's picture

First impressions, I'm back from the ride and have some setting up to do to get things right but they did set the suspension up to my weight at JetBlack and change the stem. As I had read the DW link seems to reduce bob to unnoticeable without pro pedal and still soaking up the bumps so you can stay seated, but I'll have check this more when not dodging trees. The steering is easy and stable, it feels relaxed in the steering head angle so I think it's going to eat rocky descents. (We rode up blue tongue) I can't wait to ride down it! I did the entry from the road into the top track and down the drop as the 1st metres of offroad riding so was nervous of scratching it, but had no probs. I can vouch for the new xt shifters if anyones needs shifters they are a big improvement. The front derailleur changes like butter. I also felt like I was sitting into the bike more than my other 29er.
Mr Pivot?

PIVOT MACH 5's picture

Pivot recommends setting the rear shock at %30 sag. when i first moved from gt force one to the new pivot i was a little bit perturbed(spelling?) that it did not seem very plush(insert other smooth riding words here).
after finally setting it up correctly i am pleased to say that i think the DW link is wicked! it is just like they say about no bobbing on climbs and butter when you jump of something. play around with it( im sure you will) and once you have it you will never use the pro pedal.
Just as a point of interest, i have ridden my mach 5 on all kinds of terrain ranging from davidson, oaks etc up to last weekend spending a full day and a half riding down Thredbo cannonball run. My pivot is bombproof and mate, i reckon your 29er will last you a lifetime.
I would love to see your bike. oh and hey i have a friend who is a photographer( downhill action shots, stills, surf shots etc) and hes done a beautiful job of taking and framing my pivot when it was brand new. its 20 by 28 inches in size and only cost $250.just a thought.his name is Darian Woods and his website is www.surf2summit.com.au
Congratulations on your sponsorship.

Carlgroover's picture

I just weighed it the best I could on the bathroom scales with pedals & cage and it came in at 12.5kg (large frame) I've got fairly heavy tyres on it 700gram WTB moto raptor front and a small block eight on the back so it's light for a 29er dually and it could lose a kilo with lighter parts (XTR, wheels & tyres) but I could lose 7kg and never miss it so I'll start there.

For Hazo just let me know when, as I'm riding every day.
I've just done Mt. York again with Gavin and V and normally Gavin would be descending quicker than me, but he said at the bottom there was no way he wanted to pass.
I've already done 150km on it since Friday arvo and ridden down a few bits I'd normally walk.
John.

Supagav's picture

I'll tell you what the bike doesnt feel that heavy to ride either..... Well on my very short road test that is. It popped off the ground and is very very easy to move around. It felt like a light weight 26er but it had big wheels. With a few extra lightweight parts thrown on it it would come close to the 11.5kg mark. This would make it Lighter than most XC race duallys.

You are really going to be unstoppable once you get into the grove of the bike!!!

below are a couple of photos of the new bike...
