Knee/shin guards

I've been very disgruntled over the past week after I scraped my knee on a very silly fall. Later on, a passing rider saw the damage, pointed to my knee/shin pads wrapped aound my camelback, and said "good thing you brought *those* along, eh!"

... the sad truth is, the pads were *ON* when i fell...

in other words, my pads keep slipping off my knee to go off on a round-the-world trip every time I ride - and I'm sick of it. Can anyone recommend some good knee/shin pads that'll stay where they're supposed to? Preferably hard plastic ones since they dont wrap around the whole leg and cut off all ventilation.

Thanks

I use these when I head of on a trail I'm unfamiliar with.

I use TLD Lopes knee pads / shin guards and they work a treat. They incorporate both a knee pad, which you can use just be itself, or you can velcro on the integrated hard plastic knee / shin guard for greater protection. They have saved my knees and shins many times. The only thing I could add is that they slip down a tiny bit as you ride, but it takes more than half an hour for that to happen - mainly when you are pedalling a lot, like at Red Hill for example. Not a big deal in my opinion. And when you weigh up the protection you get from the Lopes pads, it is only a small price to pay.

A little warm in summer but have never had to adjust them while riding. I dont get any rubbing from the straps either. I have the older model so I cant comment on the 09's but they look to be similar. The shin guard also extends right down near the ankle which adds a little bit more protection against pedal hits.

Don't bother with them!

However have a look here:

They are a moto shop however they do have some gear suitable for MTB. I can certainly recommend the 661 padded shorts.

Like Paul J, I like the RaceFace FR pads. Pedal all day in comfort and safety...

I'll have a look at the TLD and the Raceface ones.

Pikey - sure it's waterproof, but for some of us young 'uns the skin isn't rock-proof yet! (or metal-pins-from-the-flat-pedals proof)

Time to mature your riding style and get yourself clipped in.

I do minor DH and have done Thredbo's canonball all whilst clipped in.

They offer more control as you always know where your feet are, no slip offs and hence no shin burgers Smiling
