Does anyone know where I can get Fox RP23 Seal kits for a reasonable price?

Quoted me about $35 for the kit. They had them in stock in Chatswood last time I asked.
Jenson won't ship them out of the USA btw.

I got some seals for a Float R shock shipped to Australia. Not sure if it is the same for the RP23 but it costs $8.95 US

$35! Phantom Cycles have the kit for $22. Still pricey though for a few o-rings and a sachet of lubricant.

Interestly on the Fox Website they are selling them for $6.50 (USD)!

Latest AMB mag has a two part step by step instructions on doing this yourself. However they omitted the most important step 1 - remove AIR first!.

Looks straightforward enough. Mine will be due for a service soon, so I'm game to have a go at that procedure.

Not impressed with the local markup on the kit though!

They recommend you service every 8-40hrs of riding. Blimey that could quite easily be every other week for me. Does anyone service their shock so regularly?

Just taken mine in for a service-the shop sends it away and it costs about $150.

I could do that myself and $35 looks like a bloody bargain.

DOH!

Buy bulk from Beyond bikes and gets cheaper yet. I did a quick calculation and could get 5 rebuild kits delivered for approx $90 ($18 each!)

Slight change of subject..

Many/Most bike jobs are easily done yourself as long as you have the correct tools, knowledge and don't rush.
Often the knowledge is the tricky bit but there is pretty much everything out there on the internet, same with the tools. Once you have the tools and the confidence you save your self lots, I built my bike and it hasn't been into the shop yet.

I think Whisperer even has a Talas IFP tool. I have had a go at a Talas adjuster mech once and recognise that's about my limit. The rest of the fork is easy to service.

I won't build wheels either - I just wouldn't sleep.

The video on the fox disk mentions that only the top o-ring in the positive air can needs to be replaced every time the can is opened. If that is the case, then shouldn't it be possible to just get a big supply of fox float fluid, and a supply of the top o-ring and regularly open the can and lube everything up? I'm sure the o-rings will be able to be sourced through CBC or similar.

From reading on other forums, the real service issue comes from riding in freezing weather where the seals harden and then leak air into the neg chamber. Thus only Morgan needs to worry about getting stuck down.

did this service myself on the weekend was so easy,& i'm not mechanically minded. Used to send it away to be done which would take up to 2 weeks & cost around $150, this time it cost me $30 and took about 15 mins.

How do you get the bushes off the end of the shock though? Otherwise one can't get the sleeve off the end? I'd be interested in doing this myself as it seems very straightforward.

that was the hardest part of the service, tried just pulling them out by hand but that didn't work, however it moved one out just enough to get a thin flat blade screwdriver behind it & very carefully prised it off, note you must be very careful doing that so as not to damage the bushes.
