Thoughts on these trails...

Just rode Yellowmundee and loved it....thanks to the WSMTB who maintain it....nice, flowy, fun, fast....

So i am just curious how some crew out there would rate the following tracks in terms of difficulty, fun, fitness level, flow....and any other info they may wish to add...have chosen these cause i either regularly ride them or rate them as my favs....

Ourimbah, Menai, Yellowmundee, Manly Dam, Coondoo

Manly Dam is CLOSED!

Manly Dam Issues and Directions Discussion Paper - Please Comment

Just a gentle reminder that Manly Dam is CLOSED today despite the sunshine. It will take much more than a couple of days like this to dry the trails out given the amount of rain that has fallen over the last few weeks.

Given Warringah Council has just released a Manly Dam Issues and Directions Discussion Paper it's even more relevant than ever that mountain bike riders show they can act with maturity and respect land managers decisions. If, as a community, we do not respect the council's closures, which are actually for our own good anyway, how can we expect them to respect our requests for input on the future of Manly Dam?

So please, do not ride Manly Dam today.

Please do not think, "My one lap won't hurt", because it will! Imagine if everyone thought that way, it wouldn't just be one lap, but more like 200. All it takes is for one person to be seen riding, and the excuse comes out, "Well - if they are riding, I'm going to too" and there you go - it's a snowball effect out to those 200 laps of damage.

I know it's frustrating, but please go for a spin on trails that are less susceptible to damage. There are plenty of firetrails in the area that fit this bill. Or failing that, take a spin class, ride on your trainer (or borrow one from a mate), do some cross training... hell - even ride on the road! Please, just do something other than ride Manly Dam today!

Thanks Smiling

In case you missed Warringah Council's recent email there's some pretty positive news they have put out for riders in the region. Here's part of what they said:

This Paper hopes to encourage a rigorous and informed debate among the community on the issues and values of the Park. Comments received on the Discussion Paper will assist in confirming the key values and management issues for the Park and will help set a new vision and future direction for Manly Dam.

19th hole Lines

As discussed: http://nobmob.com/node/17256#comment-53192

I think someone needs to take an aerial photo of the 19th hole and mark what the lines are because I think there is some confusion (in my head at least) as to what all of these line are.

I'm pretty sure there are 4 lines A, B, C and D.

A - Ride straight off the top and land about 6' below narrowly missing the bushes and death.
B - Hard left and down the steep rock face, narrowly missing death. Doable but hard IMO.
C - Hard right then left down a rock face and down to the drop off. My usual line.

Did anyone ride Manly Dam over the weekend? Sitting at Orange from a week ago.... Have a day off tomorrow and tossing up Cascades 4 gates or 2 laps of Manly Dam. Will go Cascades if the Dam is still wet.

19th Hole Crash

This is John, being attended to by paramedics.

The last drop from the rock onto the clay pan has been eroded by water flow and trail use during wet weather when the Council should have closed the trail. There is now a lip formed just after where your wheel lands that can easily catch the beginner or unwary rider. This has been brought to Council's attention as requiring urgent attention both by Rob and myself, yet nothing has been done.

Manly Dam aggressive man with dog abusing cyclists

I am interested to hear if anybody else has been confronted by a 40 something year old angry man with an bull terrier who waits on the rock half way down the down hill single track behind the homes at allambie (southern cross way). he seems to be there in the afternoon on weekends and abuses riders and intimidates them with his dog, the last 2 afternoon rides I have done around the dam (some 3 weeeks apart he was in exactly the same spot.

Update on Manly Dam Maintenance Days

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

A few weeks back, when I thought the dust from the Manly Dam debacle had settled, thought it was time to ask council what is going to happen with maintenance days.

The story so far (for those that don't know) is that I've been asking the rangers there since June 2008 (22 months!) when riders can help maintain the track they love so much. Each time I ask, they are always "coming soon". More examples of when I spoke to them and was told the same thing:
