Long Trail Hill - best line?

Place : The last big hill before the loop end of long trail - I have only managed to ride this a few times without putting a foot down. It is so loose I just can't seem to get any traction. The times that I have made it in the past I first head right and then traverse left on the first steep part. After that I can make it. Now I try this line all the time, but still have low percentage of success. Maybe my Crossmarks are just too worn - how are you guys going with it?

Tips for climbing

I'm looking for some tips on climbing hills. Im riding Cascades 4 gates at the moment to build fitness. I find on the Quarry track hill that I'm changing down the the lowest gear at about 1/2 way. I tend to stay in the saddle the entire way up the climb; trying to spin harder at the erosion bumps. I just dont have the leg strength to keep it up though. I have tried standing up but tend to get the back wheel spinning under load.

I'm riding a 2010 Giant Trance X2 and the lockout does help.

Any tips?

Close but.....

Date:
9 Feb 11

Felt really good, track in great nick but couldn't quite crack the hour. I suspect I need to push a bit harder at the start of the return on the long. It feels damn steep when you've pushed really hard on the way out! Average hr of 170 and a peak of 187. Not bad considering my max should be 178.

Hey folks, well im back on the northern beaches for the next few months,am very keen to get plenty of riding in before i head back down to the snowies.I seem to have lost abit of nerve and much of the (minimal) skill i had previously,im chalking it up to riding with my partner and not really challenging myself in a fair while. So im hoping a few rounds of red hill with some capable and fearless riders will help shake out the cobwebs. It wont be fast,as the 80,000 beers i consumed over the hols preclude fast unless im gravity assisted!

Workshop on Bike repair and maintenance

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Does anybody know of anywhere you can learn more about Bike repair and maintenance?

I can get by with the normal wear and tear stuff and have even dabbled in some fork maintenance with a little assistance from a mate who knows a bit himself. But I would like to learn more and become a little more handy. Amatuer mechanic maybe?

I am sure LBS's won't be planning events that effect their bottom line, but there must be somewhere?

I know some clubs in the UK hold regular classes at night over a few pints. Seems like a really good idea! er the classes that is.
