Menai (Lucas Heights) update for 02 Jan

Status:
Green/Open

Track is in good condition and great to ride Smiling although the sand patches do keep you on your toes.

I'm amazed there isn't more rides / comments on this track as it's got something for everyone. Longer than Appin and/or Ourimbah, only 35 mins from the city and some really technical challenges mixed with windy forest single track.
As this site doesn't have much trail information I'd suggest also checking out:

http://www.trailflix.com.au/tfx_new/trails.php?i...

Which has some good trail descriptions

Hot day for a hot lap

Date:
2 Jan 11

After 4 weeks off the bike due to the new addition to the family I found this hard going, especially on a hot day. Next time I'll put some faster tyres on and try on a cooler day, I reckon that sub 30 is pretty achievable.

Trail widening at Manly Dam - again

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

While doing a lap of the dam earlier this morning, I noticed the dreaded trail widening is starting to pop up again.

At the top of the steep boardwalk climb towards the end of the Golf Course singletrack, it looks like some folks have tried to cut a B-line around the two rock step-up. Some of the branches that had been bent and broken out of the way were still green, so it looks like it was done in the last couple of days.

Manly Dam update for 02 Jan

Area:
Manly Dam
Status:
Green/Open

Excellent condition with no puddles, and relatively buffed and grippy thanks to the rider traffic.

Beware the large loose rock sitting in the middle of the landing zone after one of the roll-offs at teh bottom of the hydro lab technical section.

At the top of the steep boardwalk climb towards the end of the Golf Course singletrack, it looks like some folks have tried to cut a B-line around the two rock step-up. I spent some time this morning putting sticks and undergrowth in place to discourge trail-widening. Please do not remove it or ride over it.

If you can't ride this obstacle (like me), walk it. DO NOT cut an alternate line. This kind of bush vandalism earns mountain biking a bad reputation

Berowra Valley - North Leg

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Went out for a short ride this morning to check out & photograph the following ride.

Berowra Valley (North Leg) between Calindra St (entry) and The Outlook - out & back 45min-1hr (less if you're not stopping taking photos)

Mainly firetrail that tracks behind the houses with about 4-5 decent hills, rocky decents, some sandy sections and about 2-3 tiny creek crossings. Good cardio workout but best to head out early. It was stinking hot at 11am. A few local walkers on the initial flat areas before the hills kicked in.

2011 Goals

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Wanted to get my goals down on paper and thought in a blog on here would be a good place to go as I am likely to posting up blogs from races on here as well. I have really been enjoying my riding on both road and offroad and have been putting in some solid hours on the bike in the run up to Christmas and had already decided in my mind that I was going to race alot this year. I currently have both my road and MTB license and intend to utilise both.

So goals for 2011 are as follows:
