Banning other groups is not the answer

And the saga (or is that farce - make your own mind up) continues...

It came to my attention last night that the Mayor's solution to the current Manly Dam debarcle is to ban walkers from the mountain bike track. See his release below[1]. This is not a good idea though, as I explained in a mail (this was sent to all the elected officials early yesterday evening):

Dear elected officials,

While you might think from a cycling advocacy point of view this would be good news, my heart sank when I saw this release.

Dam closure - timing

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

One of the many things that bothers me about the dam closure is the timeframe in which events unfolded.

Councillor Laugesen (whom I recognise has demonstrated a willingness to engage in constructive dialogue on the subject) indicates that the Council first became aware of the issue with the Plan of Management at the meeting on 9 February 2010. As I understand it, the Council maintains that the legal position was investigated after that, and so, presumably, the decision to close the track must have been reached sometime between 10 and 12 February.

Manly Dam dissapointment

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Dear All,

I have sent this email in frustration and disgust at the treatment shown to us Mountain
Bikers. Yet again a minority has destroyed another activity for the popular many. The
mountain bike community is being discriminated against as well as not shown the courtesy of
discussion over the issues.

The lack of understanding shown by you all is amazing, as the sales of bikes continues to
grow yet you do not realise this, or plan for facilities that are usable by them.

In the media every day we hear about obese children and unfit people, yet as soon as they

Save Red Hll and Deep Creek now...

I know Rob put this up as a meeting but they are actually discussing stopping MTB riding in Red Hill and Deep Creek at this meeting on Monday.

The more riders to show up the better or else it slides under the radar - this isn't a protest but a meeting, however numbers ARE needed.

"Friends of Narrabeen Lagoon Catchment are having a meeting on Monday the 22nd of February from 7pm to 9pm at the tramshed Community Centre Lakeview room (Upstairs 1395a Pittwater Rd Narrabeen). Warringah Mayor Michael Regan Will be there as well.

When it rains, it pours, eh?!

This is nothing to do with the Manly Dam debarcle that is ongoing as I write, but have just got word of another very important advocacy meeting from the editor of AMB:

Hi all,

The NPA has called a public meeting next week to outline their arguments against proposals to allow mountain biking in national parks in Sydney's north. We desperately need numbers there! In light of everything that has happened in the past few weeks we need to have a strong presence.

Government policy will be our saviour

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

The stupidity or ignorance of government, at all levels, never ceases to amaze me. We have opposition parties denying the contribution of humans on global warming/climate change. Stupid and ignorant.

We have lying governments invading other countries simply to harness the power of their energy for their own selfish needs whilst Haiti self-implodes in poverty and lawlessness. Narrow minded and selfish.
