NoBMoB - 1st anniversary of the new site

This Wednesday, we celebrate the first anniversary of the new and improved NoBMoB site. What a year - this site has grown immensely and is truly starting to hit it's strides as a community forum for mountain bike riding in Northern Sydney.

- We now have over 500km of mapped trails.
- Every weekend recently there have been at least three rides co-ordinated via this site
- 5-10 new users are signing up every week, and many are becoming active members of the community, organising rides, trail maps and suggestions etc.

Many thanks to Robin for the immense effort he has put in to get the site to where it is today.

So this weekend, we will hold another beginners / lurkers ride - see if we can convince those folks that are signed up but haven't gotten motivated to go for a ride to get out there.

More details later this week.

Mid-week ride

Hi guys,

Was wondering if anyone is interested in a mid-week ride, possibly Thurs 21st. I'm fairly new to Sydney and so far have only ridden Royal National Park and Terrey Hills- so anywhere new would be good. I would love to have a crack at Manly Dam, but understand it is probably closed at the moment.
Anyway, please drop me a line if keen,

Liam

Ourimbah State Forest - Sat 23rd 10am

Hi People,

After my first experience riding with Rob this weekend I learned that a few of you are interested in hitting up Ourimbah state forest again sometime soon. I am planning on going out next Sat the 23rd for a few laps on the xc course.

Should be a great ride if the weather holds up.

I was thinking of meeting at about 10am at Ourimbah on Red Hill Rd.

If your not familiar on how to get there follow the link.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers

Sam

After...

Three hours work later... the trail has been re-directed over boardwalk (or corduroy) to the left of shot (yeah - where everyone is standing to admire it), and the area on the right mulched.

See how this looked before and during the work.

After...

A water bar and drainage ditch has been cut just off frame to the right. Mulch has been laid to help plant regrowth and hopefully prevent the bog seen here previously.

See how this looked before.

After...

Behind the houses on Maroa Crescent after mulching the old trail to encourage people to stick to the new trail (left).

See how this looked before.

Rob's picture

Before...

Behind the houses on Maroa Crescent the trail has become very worn and runs too close to the fence... the object of today was to mulch the old trail (right in this shot) so folk know to stick to the new trail (left).

See how this looked after.

Fixing the End

Hammering stakes into the ground to secure the ends of boardwalk to. These will later have chains attached and be covered in concrete.

During...

During the laying of boardwalk (or corduroy) over the area to the left of shot.

See how this looked before and after.

Before...

The trail runs to the right of this shot, but over poorly draining land (check it out here). Boardwalk (or corduroy) will be laid over the regenerated area left (don't worry - after re-locating the new plants) and the trail re-directed to avoid this bog.

See how this looked during and after.
