What bike to look for

My wife and I have just started on the basic MTb track at Hornsby track
We have basic trek bikes with fork suspension only

We are looking for help on what bike to upgrade to that will be ok to use on the intermediate and advanced tracks

What budget should we be looking at for something decent

Cheers Jason

Second set of wheels

Hi all,

bit of a newbie question here. I want to get a second set of wheels which I can put some slicks on for commuting, was thinking either shimano MT55 or Mavic Crossride (any recommendations?). Wondering what I actually need to get along with the wheels, from what I can figure I need the wheels, disc rotors and a 9 speed cassette (riding a Trek Fuel ex9.5), is there anything I'm missing?

Thanks all!

Ben

Camden River update for 12 Jan

Area:
Camden River
Status:
Green/Open

As always, the track is in great condition.
There is a tree down about a third of the way along but it's easy to see it coming up and just a case of carrying your bike through the undergrowth to get round it.

Bike plates for your car

In case peps here don't realise

Every Xmas hols love the variations of number plates you see. Some cardboard, some have taken the time to go to Bunnings buy stick on letters and numbers and place em on a board - all illegal if you didn't know.
Saw a CX9 in StIves nice bikes looking like they just came back from a ride in Terry hills - no plate at all. Bad news big fine for all of the above if you don't know - sad and sorry tales here.

Area:
Cascades

Quick blast thru at 5:30am this morning whilst cool. Morning dew keeps the sand packed ok. Trail is good. Watch out for the 50+ horse poos (these make it almost amber) Smiling

Red Hill Sampler

When:
Sunday, 12 January, 2014 - 08:00

The meeting times are 'ready to ride'. If you need time to prepare equipment then please arrive a few minutes earlier.

Ride Database Entry:
Red Hill
Meeting Point:

Red Hill Reserve car park, off Lady Penryhn Drive, Beacon Hill. Another option is to ride over here from Oxford Falls.

Show on Google maps: Meeting point. Login or register to get directions.

As promised..

Plan is to ride most of Red Hill, linking it all up to avoid too much "hike a bike", so you will need 2L of fluids for this one.

This is NOT a fire trail cruise so please don't turn up if you don't got adequate health insurance for coverings of helicopter evacuations and sexy time with nurses while in hospital with broken bodies... OK.. seriously.. Red Hill can break bones and bikes and you will probably bleed at some time on this ride.

if it rains between now and Sunday morning I will cancel the ride as my bike refuses to let me ride it there if its damp.
