Group (pack) riding tips
After getting into a couple of pack riding situations in the Fling, it quickly became clear to me and those around me, that I'm a bad person to ride with.
Somedays you eat the bear, somedays the bear eats you.
Coming back for my second 100 Mile fling I was very ready, I had trained much harder than last year and was confident that I would smash my last years time, I had also talked a couple of reasonably fit guys into entering as well.. So with my training and bike fitness looking good I was all set to have some fun racing a couple mates over 100 Miles.
Coldest wettest and funnest fling
My 9th fling, and despite the weather my favourite. Not just because it was my best result, but I really enjoyed the race. Yes there were times when it hurt, a lot, but I found myself smiling and really enjoying the experience more than ever before.
Fling'n Fun
Of all the XCM races on the calendar, the Fling qualifies best as a true “event”. I love it, even though the Half Fling is a solid 57 km, with all the hard stuff – big hills, technical single track – in the last 15 km.
Fling 2013 - Death by Cramps
As my first Fling this was a real "learning experience".
I've had a mixed last six months since the Mont with rib displacement, a couple of winter chest infections, infected sutures needing 3 weeks on IV antibiotics (and no riding) and then another bloody headcold. Each one just as I was starting to get some training traction. But I've had a good last month or so ... so when PeteB suggested I give the Fling a crack on the back of some reasonable recent training sessions I thought why not. It's only 50-odd km, how hard can it be?
Lane Cove National Park update for 10 Nov
The fires are out, and I haven't been in, but I think the trails might be a bit wet now....

Disappointing Fling
I was so keen to do well at The Fling. My aim was to do 5:30-5:45 which would smash my pb of 6:25. I've been training well and have been coached for 4 months now by my mate Gordo who has won the event twice.
This year's Highland Fling: a true hardman's race? What was your take?
The reports are starting to trickle in, and today's race down in Bundanoon was one for the hardmen - and hard women - by the sound of it.
One of the biggest Marathons of the year, the Fling always draws a great field, who this year were joined on the start line by a world tour road pro - bet you are wondering how he went?
Throw in a whole lot of wet and windy stuff and the recipe looks a treat for those who like to read of adversity, and of overcoming.
If you were down in Bundanoon today we'd love to hear how you went. Why not share in a blog entry linked to our 2013 Highland Fling page. Include your result to get it built into a local leader board and history in your profile.
All the stories are always appreciated by those of us who couldn't make it!
The Fling was Flung...
I'm few beers down (how good are post race beers?!) so this might be a long one - apologies for any self-indulgence!
As you can see, I came 11th. Unless you win, its pretty academic in an Elite race. This is just a story of the weekend, the lead-up, and my highlights.
