Yellomundee Regional Park update for 18 Oct

Status:
Red/Closed

NPWS have advised me verbally that they wish to CLOSE Yellomundee RP to all riders and walkers this weekend due to bush fire safety issues. Note that the risks do not only include the fire itself, but also from falling tree branches under helicopter downwash.

This advice may not appear on their web site as they are just TOO busy get it done - so please don't take the absence of this advice on their web site as an OK to ride.

Thanks for your assistance.

Parking at bottom of the Oaks?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

As you might have seen, our maps now allow for POIs (points of information) to be added and I've put in a few to try and show the way.

Was going to mark the information, toilets and car park at the bottom of the oaks. You know - by the gate on Bruce Road.

However, can anyone please tell me - do you have to pay to use this car park?

The NPWS sign I can see on street view shows parking, toilets and information. I assume there is a tap here too for water, but does anyone have any idea of where to find it? Is there also a picnic area here?

Pisgah Rock

Type:

There's a nice view over the valley cut by Erskine Creek from Pisgah Rock. Like the sign says, "Take care when walking near cliffs".

Nepean lookout

Type:
View

There's a nice view over Nepean river from the end of the obviously named Nepean Lookout Track.

Woodford train station

Type:
Train Station

Woodford train station makes a fine starting point for those wishing to ride The Oaks one way (top to bottom). It's 700m from the trail head on Taylor Road. To get to the trail from here, upon exiting the station (away from the highway) turn left, turn second right (away from bridge over the highway) then keep bearing left.

Glenbrook train station

To see this feature in context with others in the same area, view The Oaks map.
Type:
Train Station

Glenbrook train station is a short ride (2.3km) from the end of The Oaks single track or a little further (3.9km) to the start of the dirt section of that fire trail.

Incorrect cassette order. What to do?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Short story.

Bought new cassette, wanted 11-32T but didn't change option from 11-28T, D'oh.

Do I;

Harden up and deal with 28?
Return it for 11-32T?

Pros as I see it;

Harden upingness is increased.

Cons as I see it;

Found spread between 11-32T was too close anyway and nearly always flick 2 sometimes 3 cogs at a time up or down. 11-28T is going to be even closer in ratios. (Haven't checked what cogs/teeth are different)
