The Oaks update for 22 Sep

Area:
The Oaks

Was on the track at first light 5:30am. Dry and quick all the way. Very cold, only around 6c. Also a bit blinding on some corners with sun coming up. Great view over Sydney with sunrise.

Talk about how to overtake?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Does anybody know that guy who was riding Manly dam today at 1.30pm, wearing a red top, black camel back and knee/shin guards?

I overtook him on my first lap before the golf course single track but then he caught me up and I immediately asked him if he wanted to overtake me to which he replied yes. So I went to the right and shouted to my left. However, he stayed behind my wheel so I slowed down even more and said again, to my left. He still stayed behind my wheel. So I asked him whether he wanted to overtake me or not.

Challenge:
Cascades - Four Gates

Debut crack (and ride) of the 4 gates. Went far too hard on Quarry Track climb and had to have a breather at the top whilst trying to contain my stomach contents. Then, I had to go back up Quarry (only 50 metres or so) to pick up my sunnies ;(

Had another breather at the top of stony Parade. I'd already rode up Heath Track as a warmup which I regretted towards the end of this heart breaking hot lap challenge Eye-wink

Actual moving time was 01:02:59... Just need to be able to put that together without feeling like death is not too far away Eye-wink

For Sale: Full face DH helmet

Price:
40.00

This is for DHers or those with sons who go out and take crazy risks! I got this when I had to a bit of DH at school, but no longer can afford to take such risks! I've got an average sized head, and is adjustable so should be able to fit most heads.

It needs one screw (which seems to have been disappeared), but should be able to be found at any hardware store or bike shop for under a dollar, so shouldn't be an issue.

Shoot me a PM or text (0432 529 806) if interested.

Bike Box Hire

Is there a bike store on the Northshore/Northern Beaches that hire bike boxes at a reasonable price? Alternatively, does anyone have a bike box that I'd be able to borrow for a week? Otherwise, I will be resorting to a cardboard bike box.

Also, anyone who regularly travels with a bike, should I be taking out travel insurance to cover any damage in transit on the plane? If so, what insurance do you usually use?

I am heading up to uni games on the Gold Coast for a week, which runs from the 29th September to 4th October. Unfortunately, they only do road cycling.

Thanks

Alright for a 14 year old?

Date:
15 Sep 13

Ridden the dam quite a few times Smiling Done about 17 laps in total and after my first lap 2 ladies who were timing themselves (I think) gave me the idea to see how fast I could do it! I tried to push it a little harder where I could I didn't push it as much as I could of, but I was pretty satisfied with my time! (first time timing) I ride a 2011 specialized hardrock 26er and failed to warm-down afterwards so I was cramping up all the way down to the ferry! Trail traffic was basically none, but my best hope is to get it under 30!
Best of luck with your other PB's!
