A short lap of Rydal

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

Rydal is cool in that you can link segments together in a myriad of different ways to keep it all fresh

This week we did out Jive Turkey, then crossed over to link in Robbies Run. Up Snake tails. Hard right and into Hazard County. Hard left and back along the dump run.

I caught lap on the gopro using a gimbal mounted to chesty

Left Hand Gully

To see this feature in context with others in the same area, view Newnes Plateau map.

Ah Left Hand Gully. Back when mountain biking was mountain biking this was the bomb.

Back in the 40s-50s it was a road, whether a fire break or access road for the mines I don't know. in the 60s-70s it was used by motos to access the plateau. Then late 70s early 80s it began being used but cyclist.

Through the 90s it was the go to trail for thrill. Then around 20024 a big fire ripped through. Big trees tumbled down and the regrowth was silly think. The trail fell into disuse and nature reclaimed it.

Then in October 2013 the devastating State Mine Forest ripped through the area.

Thank you Lithgow council

We are often quick to grumble about things and I know I have been critical of council in the past but I have had some very positive dealings with them recently and with recent happens in other areas with land managers shutting trails I want to put this up as a good news story

There is this trail on Hassans Walls (The pottery trail) that starts down an old road, now this road was a bit rutted out, has several old turning circles that were havens for rubbish dumper and recently had been the target of illegal fire wood collect who drive into the bush and drag logs out.

Some details I' suppose
Franken Bike. Blur TRca 2.0

Huge thanks to Rick Boyer and the team at Lusty Industries and Distributors Santa Cruz Bicycles Australia and Santa Cruz Bikes for Jumping through hoops to get me sorted with this. I had a heap of spare parts sitting about so when the opportunity of a new frame came up I jumped at it. Only, being a retro grouch, everything I had was for 26" ( You remember remember, little wheels, heaps of fun)
