Needed a training ride between Tuesday night races, What better way than pushing yourself up Hassans Walls. Had a goal to beat 11 minutes. Started off moderately, then as i approached the last bend, saw that a good time was possible so pushed hard to the top. Heart rate peaked at 190.
A slow recovery ride to Braceys and gap rd followed.

Knowing the time it use to take when i was younger, I thought an 11:30 would be possible. Decided to have a crack at it and surprised myself . Although it hurt like hell and took a few minutes to recover at the top. Would like to break 11 minutes in the future although not looking forward to the pain involved

To see this feature in context with others in the same area, view Rydal map.

Clockwise you get a fast Dh with some techi off camber.
Anti clockwise it's nice little climb to open the lungs up

It's funny how things work. Felt pretty strong at Tuesday nights race. Had a nice recovery ride yesterday, still feeling good and was psyked to get up and have a crack at this one.

Today, however I felt like I was riding underwater or something. 12:38 is ok but I was completely spent and was barely able to keep pushing the pedals over as I continued over the top and into work.

I obviously need to do a lot more work on my base fitness

A nice way to start a saturday morning

Big thanks to Glenn for pushing me to do this one.

We started at lake Wallace and worked out way up past what's left of Lidsdale pine forest then followed a mixture of the train line and the bicentennial trail across towards Rydal, hooking up a loop of the Rydal short course on the way

From Rydal we worked our way up the coach rd through Bonaventure. The road easement is public but it crosses private property and there are several gates, please respect the land owners by closing gates and staying on the trail.

Bonaventure

Parto has been at me to do this ride for ages. I've been a bit reluctant as the thought of riding up a fire trail for the sake of riding up a fire trail just never appealed to me.

But I always say don't knock what you haven't tried so I finally succumbed.

It's actually a pretty good ride that ascends up some very nice country and the views are spectacular.

A good ride to get some hills into your legs.

This follows the Coach rd from Rydal up through Bonaventure to Mt Lambe. The road itself has public access but it passes through private land and there are several gates. please respect the land owners and shut gates after you.

The time starts at the little bridge on Charles st Rydal and finishes at the junction of the Great Western Highway.
