hi all,
heading to thredbo for the first time ever this christmas and just wondering what sort of XC tracks there are on the mountain itself. I've obviously had a look at the trail map and it seems the only ones rideable on an XC bike (100mm front and back) would be the new Kosciuszko Flow Trail and possibly the Merrits Traverse (and that one says guided tours only).
i don't mind the occasional hike a bike section but if it gets any harder than say the 'bunnings' trail here in sydney then i know it's not for me.

Visit www.bungarra.com.au for more info on how to ride on the trails at Bungarra. Accommodation is available for small groups or large groups up to 200people.

I'm heading to the Snowy Mountains this summer with the #1 goal of spending a few days on the Thredbo Downhill. I've watched countless youtube vids but its always hard to tell the severity of the terrain.

1. Comparison - Can anyone provide a comparison of Thredbo vs Manly Dam (Allambie Fire Trail and Water Lab). Steepness of trail, size of the steps/drops, radical changes in speed needed to survive etc?

2. Bike - On the first day I will hire gear, but from then on I plan on riding my Giant Reign 1 .... thoughts?

Family rides near Jindabyne/Snowy Mountains?

Hans's picture

Any suggestions for easy/medium level family rides around the Jindabyne/Snowy Mountains area?

We are heading to the Snowies after the Mont, staying at Jindabyne and have 5 days in the local area. Appreciate any suggestions for local trails (both single track and gravel) suitable for our three boys (10, 12, 13) and S.O. Thank you.

Interestingly I read that they have recently secured funding for some new trails in the area, see:

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

I was cruising google earth the other day, and saw this series of trails up in the snowys, and i started to wonder...

It looks like a fairly do-able loop, i remember reading somewhere about the possibility of riding it as a 2-3 day spring ride. With either a car shuffle or a long bit of road bash.

Anyone familiar with it? Done it? other options in the vicinity?

(it starts at Dead horse gap)

Help for some newbie 'oldies' get through the Snowy

wokka's picture

Hi guys,
We are a bunch of guys planning on hitting the fire trails from Thredbo to Tathra and need a little advice on the route. We'll start with 'the pinch' ride down to the snowy but we then need to head east and get to Delegate. There seems to be two tracks over the mountains, the 'snowy creek fire trail' and the 'snowy track'. Has anyone any comments or ideas of the route? Also if this thread is in the right forum?
Cheers

Hi There,
I will be in Talingbo at the northern end of Kosciuszko national park next week ( about 1/2 an hour south of Tumut). Can any body recommand good XC trails in the area? I am planning to bring my bike. Many thanks- Chris
