Which tyres for first MTB ride?

G'day

Wanting to get into some fire trail and single track for the first time (I've only done about 20Kms of trail in the Nasho and now thinking about doing Oaks), and hoping to get some pointers as to what tyres I should get for my Giant Roam 1 hybrid (bought it intending to do mainly urban stuff and a small amount of trails). It's currently running stock Giant P-RX2 700x40 tyres (and I replaced the rear wheel with a hand-build Mavic 319 because I got sick of replacing broken spokes - I'm 110Kg, so maybe that has something to do with it).

Nepean River update for 15 Jul

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
Area:
Nepean River
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

While the trail surface is still loose and well eroded in some sections, the weeds and grass had all been cut back making it much easier to pick a line.

On the downside, there is a property development at the Emu Heights end with alot of signage declaring the access to be a private driveway and on private property. One hand painted sign stuck up in a tree said it was private property from the river to the powerline easement and no 4wd or motor bikes allowed. Im not sure on the legality of the signs or access rights and i'm keen to find out more information.

Note that this is "Withdrawn" so is here for archive purposes only.

Price:
175.00

Price Drop! Again! - need this gone - no sensible offer refused!

Pictures updated.

We changed vehicle earlier this year and looks like won't be going back to anything with a hitch, soooooo...

Up for sale is a used Thule hitch mounted, 4 bike bike carrier, with cable lock. Plus zip stick stabiliser. Plus Snug Tite lock.

This looks like the current Hitching Post 4 model, but has silver arms instead of black. It fits 40mm hitch, but I'm sure you could easily get a sleeve for 50mm if required.

Withdrawn: Thule ProRide Roof Carrier

Note that this is "Withdrawn" so is here for archive purposes only.

Price:
150.00

We changed vehicle earlier this year and looks like won't be going back to anything with roof rails, soooooo...

Up for sale is a used Thule ProRide rack. Silver. Passenger side. Ie. if your bike is facing forward the lever to lock/unlock the bike is accessed from the passenger side of the car. That's not to say you can't mount so your bike will face backwards and the lever is on the driver's side if you wanted.

Andersons update for 07 Jul

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
Area:
Andersons
Status:
Amber/Some Issues

Beware - there is currently a high level of zombie activity in the area.
An unwanted encounter with the un-dead may lead to severe injuries along with being co-opted into this slowly marching army of brain hungry, soulless corpses.
At least they won't be taking any KOM's off you on Strava.
Activity is due to cease after next weekend (12/13/14 July) due to preparations in moving the hideous ghouls to Canberra to feast on the carcass of the Labor party after the Federal election.

Check out the action here:
