Why shouting is better than a bell

So... I'm riding off the bridge and down to Hickson Rd this morning when some muppet doesn't see me at corner of Kent & Argyle.

A quick yell to attract his attention sees a stalled car and coffee in his lap. Nice Smiling

Show me a bell that works that well... and without moving your hands either! Laughing out loud

10mm bolt through rear

I have just ordered the 10mm bolt through conversion for my Hope Pro II hub from CRC.
Unfortunately, CRC did not have any 10mm bolts in stock and i am too imptaient to wait.
Any suggestions on 10mm bolts, what types, where to get them.

i'd love the DT Swiss ratchety one, but the finance director will have my head if i spend too much.

PS: 2007 Kona Coilair, 135m hub spacing. Hope ProII hubs

Roof mounted bike carriers - wheel off or wheel on?

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Hello everyone. Canberra is lovely by the way and the MTB World Champs opening ceremony, which I popped out to during my lunch break, was actually a pretty sorry affair. BUT I'm looking forward to seeing some outstanding dirty action at the weekend. However.....

Need ideas for trails around St Albans

I'm off to St Albans with a few friends at the weekend and looking for recommendations as to which local trails to ride. Currently thinking about doing Great Northern Road combined with Western Commission Track. This is my preference having done the Dirt Works but it may be a bit too much for the others although they are all fit just not used to mountain biking. Does anyone know of any other trails that will take approx 2 to 3 hours and still offer a bit of a challenge? Is it possible to ride the last section of the Dirt Works trail which starts with the 2nd of the big climbs?

Cracked Scott Spark frame - not 1 but 2!

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Just wondering if anyone has experienced any problems with the Scott Spark frames? I purchased a Spark 50 about 6 months ago and the rear triangle cracked completely through on the bottom stay close to the main frame. Had the rear triangle replaced and frame upgraded to a Spark 40. Have ridden the bike maybe half dozen times around manly Dam Terry Hills etc. Last weekend the frame cracked in exactly the same place on the rear triangle after about the same amount of riding as the first round.

Car Bike Rack Recommendations

Hi all

I have recently upgraded my bike to a yeti 575. As a result my previous tow bar mounted bike rack which requires a flat top tube no longer is suitable for the Yeti.

I would prefer to continue with a tow bar mounted rack rather then a roof mounted rack.

Can anyone suggest a tow bar mounted rack that works well with dual suspension bike, with no flat top tube ? Any ideas or recommendations are appreciated.

Doctor's Switched?

See the Angry Doctor profile here:

http://www.arocsport.com.au/MTBenduro/mtbenduro_...

Erm... isn't this the other way round to the previous year? The second half looks easier. Even though they say the profile hasn't been updated for 11 months. Confused? Eye-wink

Ah... I see they updated it 31/8/09 and now looks more like the description.

Good Shoulder Surgeon?

Hi

Came off my bike recently and have a distal fracture right at the end of my clavicle which requires surgery.

Anyone recommend a good surgeon or specialist from experience or word of mouth.

Thanks

Ivan

Cheap(er), US-made derailleur hangers

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Stumbled across this site today: http://derailleurhanger.com. They ship worldwide and are roughly half price - shipped - compared to local bike shop prices.

My young bloke broke his hanger on a rock last weekend riding home back up the trail from his session with forum member 'mountainbiker'.

Got the LBS (ie, the local brand dealer) to order in a pair of replacements for the bike, which have now arrived. I enquired as to price: FORTY FIVE BUCKS EACH! Sad For a little piece of soft aluminium! Sad

mountainbiker rides the 19th Hole A-line

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

My son showed me some video captured on his mobile phone of riding buddy and young forumite 'mountainbiker' successfully riding the 19th Hole A Line on the Manly Dam trail last weekend.

Once I recovered from the shock, I was impressed! Unfortunately my son pressed the wrong button so the middle bit of the sequence is missing, but you can see clearly him making the first part of the descent to the middle rock platform, and then surviving the last roll-off to the clay pan at the bottom.
