Red Hill DAs
Something to come out of the meetings we've had over the last few weeks is the fact that the conservation, bushwalking and other lobbies have a lot more in common than you'd think.
Highlighting this is the fact that a number of DA plans that would affect Red Hill riding are awaiting approval. Below is a list of those that one of the other groups created, it sounds quiet serious.
There are a number of disastrous developments in the pipeline at Red Hill and the surrounding bushland and all of them would destroy walking and biking areas.
Further information can be found on the Warringah Council web site under DA's on-line. Be warned that a set of DA reports can be 1000 pages long so they take a while to read. They are in smaller pdf files though, so can be downloaded bit by bit.
Nearly all the land from Red Hill to Oxford Falls and Narrabeen Lagoon is under threat of development and unless we fight for it, it is unlikely to be available for walkers or bikers to enjoy in 10 years time or perhaps much less. The same goes for a lot of the bushland at Ingleside, Terry Hills, Duffy's Forest, etc, etc. This is why the National Parks are so important as they will be the only bushland remaining soon.
Ignitor tyres order confusion.....
Hi all. I'm after your opinions please....
I just recently ordered four Maxxis Ignitor 26x2.1 62a tyres from Wiggle, and when I received them i found one of them is the UST tubeless version. I do not run tubeless, know very little about them, and so I'm not sure if I should use it or not. Now as far as I can tell there is no difference besides the rubber being slightly thicker on the tubeless, so I'm wondering if I should just keep and use it as a normal tyre, or if I should be contacting wiggle and organising a return. Any suggestions on which route to take?
Thanks,
Col.
You choose - top 10 NSW rides
So... let's say you have to make a list of the top 10 MTB rides in NSW. What would they be?
Don't forget... Can'bra rides are in the ACT and don't count!
Think about a tourist who wants to take a road trip through NSW with their bike... where would then go? Is there anything here in Sydney or should they just drive on by?
Skydiver survives 610-metre freefall, lands on roof
This story is unreal:

Some choice quotes:
He is incredibly lucky...
Mr Lewis's troubles started when his main parachute failed 914 metres above the ground
He did hit it hard, but he was using a full-face helmet which protected him
So there you go kids... remember to always wear your full-face!
Bike hire around Sydney
Hi There,
I'm seriously considering a dual suspension bike, possibly a trance depending on the budget allocated by my minister of finance. I would really like to try a bike out for a weekend so I am curious if anyone knows of any bike shops that do this kind of thing?
Downloading to GPX/CRS and Garmin
i have been trying to download the trail maps from NOBMOB to a garmin gps. the KML files open perfectly fine in Google Earth however i have been unable to convert these files to a .gpx or .crs file. i think the issue is that the .kml files that come directly from the website have embedded http:// links to other data files. google earth seems happy to dynamically pull these links in however all of the conversion utilities that i can find just port the "http://blahblahblah" link and thus not the base coordinate data.
help?
Half Fling Ticket Wanted
Hey,
If anyone has a spare half fling ticket, i'd really like to buy it off you.
I was meant to be on holidays over that time, so i didn't enter. Now we've moved the holiday back 2 weeks and i'd love to do the Fling.

Lance wins Leadville in record time
Seems scumming might be good for MTB training after all!
Story here... although it's a bit brief:
http://www.cyclingnews.com/races/leadville-100-n...
Lance finished first in record time and 25 minute gap. Riding on a flat rear tire. Wonder how long it was flat for? Tire was flat for 10 miles according to this:

Reign 1 - Wheelset upgrade
Hi Guys,
I have an 09 Reign 1 and I'm looking for a really good wheelset as an upgrade. What are people running and recommend?
I've had a problem with normal tyres on UST rims not seating well although they work great with tubeless tyres
Thanks
Late notice possible training options for Sunday
Ooops... after having too much fun at Ourimbah today I need to do a little training tomorrow.
There is a road ride up the old Pacific Highway in the calendar and was thinking about doing that, but seems takers for this ride are falling like flies
On the off chance that this scumming doesn't occur, anyone fancy some training close to home on Sunday? I'm thinking Cascades for a few laps of the 4 gates or something.
Any interest out there for that?
Is this ride possible???
Guys I'm wanting to do a ride linking up a number of tracks.
I'm trying to get from Elanora to Nth Turramurra. What's the best way to go whilst staying off the road as much as possible?
I've mapped this out, but not sure if this is the best way. Ultimately, I'd love to avoid St Ives chase and try and link up Ryland and Spinx trails. But by the look of it it isn't possible, at least not on the Spinx side. I'd also consider adding in the "Single track" along Mona Vale road if it's worth doing. I did a rough measurment and it's like 32kms.
Any ideas?
Cheers

Adjustable Seatposts
Had anybody got/know about on-the-fly adjustable seatposts.
There seem to be quite a few options out there.
so far i have found:
Crank Bros Joplin
RASE http://www.rasebike.com/
Fezzari Drop In
Gravity Dropper
Specialized Command
I have 1 big restriction: I have a Kona, which for some reason has a 30.0mm seatpost.
I don't mind using shims, but i obviously can't go any bigger.
any opinions welcome (expect for telling me that regular seatposts are height adjustable as well - i already know that)

Beetroot juice may boost endurance - forget the training
Consuming beetroot juice may boost stamina and allow people to exercise for up to 16 per cent longer, according to a new study from the UK. The vegetable juice’s nitrate content may reduce oxygen uptake to an extent that cannot be achieved by any other known means, making exercise less tiring, according to findings published in the Journal of Applied Physiology. “We were amazed by the effects of beetroot juice on oxygen uptake because these effects cannot be achieved by any other known means, including training.”
