Serious Cyclists May Develop Low Bone Density
Seems cycling may be a bit too low impact for some...
http://www.singletracks.com/blog/mtb-training/se...
However, it's not all bad news:
Earlier studies have shown that mountain bikers tend to have better bone densities than road cyclists...
Wonder if 20 years of squash prior to being a cycling convert means I'll be safe?
Aussies go well at the world 24
Well done to Jason English for coming in first place, in what sounds like a tough race (isn't it always?). He had a really tough fight with Tony Hogg at the start until Tony pulled out with a back problem, the pace sounded crazy fast.
Andy Fellows came in 3rd.
Richard Rothwell (UK) in 8th (cat place 1) yay!
Jason McAvoy went well with a ninth place
Jess Douglas came in forth, in what sounded like a VERY hard race for her.

Torpedo cycle case
Has anyone tried a Torpedo7 bike case which is on special this week? http://www.torpedo7.com.au/products/T7BCCNN00
At $229, the price looks good, but I am concerned by the weight 13kg and question mark about what bikes will actually fit.
Night Pains?
Anyone up for an anit-social night ride either tomorrow or Wed? I'm thinking DH+C+P+L with 6:30-7pm start.
I say 'anti-social' as it should be zero breaks and around 2h15 ride time. Yes - I've gone soft!
Distances quoted for Andersons
There seems to be some discrepency in the distances quoted on NobMob's trail write ups for Andersons and the Oaks.
Andersons
Station to Station is 32.7K
Station to 1st Creek is 31K
2nd Creek to Gate is 2.4K (this would suggest a Station to Gate distance of 33.4K)
Oaks
Station to Station is 29.33K
Oaks + Andersons is 59.7K (but 32.7 + 29.33 is 62.03K)
Given the way my body feels having ridden Andersons + Oaks on Sunday - I'm going with 62K
Appin XC course
Just got back from a challenging lap of Appin ( and "Ankle biter " almost got me again) ,with quite some disapointment at the damage that 6 trail bikes have done to this great course . My question is , Are they allowed to be there and if not what is the best way to counter them ? there were six of them so a six motor bike rider V one mountain bike confrontation was not the way to go , specially with their full face helments ......although the passive agressive approach of riding at my pace with three bikes behind was satisfying in a juvenile way ...
Any thoughts , future actions ??
commencal meta 5
im looking at getting a commencal meta 5, no stores seem to keep them in stock. Does anyone have one i can throw a leg over?

Compression Garmets
Hi Everyone,
So we have all heard the hype about compression garmets but are they actually worth it? I'd like to know! as im thinking of investing in one.
So here is my breakdown...
I commute 10 times a week for 15kms about 35mins, singlespeed and I HATE being overtaken! So its fairly punishing (for me) when going up the hilles
Longer ride on the weekends for about 2-3 hours and as the fling and Mogo comes up I will be swapping the commutes for a longer one
Questions...
Should I get a chamoix one as well?
Should I get longs ones, which cover the calf or just the shorter ones?
2010 24 Hours of Adrenalin World Solo 24 Hour Championships in Australia
Event will be held in either South-East Queensland for Tailwind or at Stromlo Forest Park in Canberra for Canberra Off-Road Cyclists. I'm going to have to find a 24hr event to qualify for this

Freeriders - and rangers with mullet wigs?
Check the new mountain bike film "Freedom Riders"It’s a true story of a core group of riders who formed an against-all-odds relationship with the Forest Service and created the first freeride specific trails on public lands in the lower 48. That’s all great and everything, but in watching the trailer, I have to say that it wasn’t the skills on bikes that got my attention, but the hairdos. Check out the forest service lady and the mullet guy. Seriously, are they both wigs? You be the judge.

Edges & Linux
Flynny:
Now for something completely non NPWS. Just got back from a lap of Lidsdale. any one know who to get an edge 305 to upload the course to the new garmin connect using Ubuntu?
gpsbabel is your friend. Install it and do something like:
gpsbabel -D 1 -t -r -i garmin -f /dev/ttyUSB0 -o gtrnctr -F out.tcx
Then manually upload the out.tcx file. Haven't tried this personally but it should work.
UNITED breaks guitars (+ bikes?)... Nice payback...

Hot and wet in Bali
Gday, I'll be hitting the warm beaches and cold Bintang in Bali in 2 weeks. Last time there I did a one day tour with Clare from Trailblazers. She had the 10 time Bali MTB champ as a guide !! We did the Temple to Beach day trip, with a nice Bintang on the beach at the end. She had a nice writeup in one of the mtb mags later that year.
Just thought to check anyone who has done the other xc rides there like the Lake Buyan or Batur crater ?? thx.
National Park Planning in the Blue Mountains
Fell into my inbox this morning:
Plans of management for Blue Mountains, Kanangra-Boyd and Wollemi National Parks, part of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, are currently being revised by the NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS). An opportunity exists for stakeholders to register their interest in the planning process.
Something different
How about we try something outrageous and not give any energy or time or thought to the nwps for...say... Oh I don't know, 24 hrs?. This, I thought was a mtb forum for sharing bike riding stories and finding like minded people to ride with. Lately all that seems to be tAlked about is the nwps. I am sure they have their own site yes? NobMob used to be fun but it's not right now.
New NPWS equipment to avoid damaging precious MTB trails ?
New NPWS equipment to avoid damaging precious MTB trails?
Maybe they could use this when selectively logging Sparrow Hill next month?

Trail building permits for a metro forest area - Cumberland State Forest?
I may be overzealous here and jumping the gun but after having read as much as possible into National, State and Council owned forest areas.
It seems that State Forests seem to have more flexibility in allowing for MTB trails to be built.
With the Dam being the busiest track in Oz and Ourimbah, Yellomundie and Appin donks away. And forests around the Northern Beaches area being National Parks with other parks protected by the 'Yogi Bear fan club' rangers.
Its a safe bet to say that there is almost nothing else around the Sydney metro region for such a highly populated sporting group.
Lane Cove is a joke for single trail and Menai isnt too bad but shared amongst motoheads.
But you look at Ourimbah, Awabi and Yellomundie who are supported by the local MTB clubs, therefore supported by NSW Forests as well.
Would it be prudent to ask the office for Cumberland State Forest (Pennant Hills area) to determine whether a sustainable single track circuit be built around that area?
Having spoken to bikers around the area, they have put their hand up to assist in "Build days" with the rangers to work out a good trail system.
If its determined to be a success, this could well possibly become the busiest track in Sydney alleviating the likes of the Dam.
Its central, there's pockets of hectares to pick from and the economic benefits of it would promote the area significantly.
Rob - Do you think this is feasible or am I blowing wind up my ass again?
I know this technically falls out of the Northern Beaches area but I get tired of driving out so far to get a decent single trail ride if the Dam is closed.
STOLEN: Two BMX bikes
Our work BMX club is seriuosly disadvantaged by the recent loss of two BMX bikes from our car park.
If you see either of the two silver bikes in this picture around Newtown please let us or the police know. Neither are worth much (one I found on the side of the road and used in the recent burning trails video), but we have just purchased some Skyway tuffs so need something to put them on
Oh, and ignore the blue one, that's for a special project
Thanks
