Hornsby Park (OMV) Update

****This will be up on Saturday 20th as well****

Hornsby Mall has a community feedback on the recent submissions regarding the Hornsby Park area. Won't say much as I'll let the photos of the signs speak for themselves.

Quarry Road Track Closure due to Rifle Range “Danger”

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

We’re paging mountain bikers, walkers and joggers from Hornsby and beyond to help us in our charge to find a more workable solution than the present Trump-like “answer” of gates, walls and fences to lock everyone out of the extremely popular Quarry Road Track from Hornsby to Dural. The transcript of the letter/report that I have personally sent is shown below for reference; it’s rather long but the Abstract is a pretty good summary of the situation for those who have been out of the loop.

Calling GIS Professionals

Trail advocacy help! Calling GIS professionals

Hey all, at TrailCare we are looking to build a detailed map of trails in Northern Sydney.

Hoping to find someone who can help:
-with raster to vector conversion of tile images to CAD lines. We can provide a converter.
-scaling and coordinate conversion of vectors into GDA/MGA zone 56
-assembling the tiles in ArcView GIS or similar to output to standard files such as *.shp.
-export of GIS layer to Google Earth

Thank you to Dave, Tristan and Sam for bouncing ideas with me so far.

Regards
TrailCare

as per title

I haven't had as chance to read it all yet but a quick skim seems pretty positive

Of what I picked up so far as mountain bikes go
Good points:
They did away with the one way road idea.
Pony express trail to stay
Recreational trail management system recommended

Points of caution:
Rezoning a portion from community use to bushland. I'm not sure what impact that will have, I need to read it closer.

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Last night (Thursday), 7 other mountain bikers and I met with several Hornsby Councillors as part of the latter's consultation process of the future of Hornsby Park and how the land could be best used for.

So, what’s going on?

NSW Govt drops mandatory ID requirement for cyclists

Below is a preview, click to read the full post

Overnight it has been announced that the NSW government has abandoned plans to introduce a requirement for cyclists to carry ID when using their bikes in public areas. This would have also impacted mountain bikers on public trails.

Of course success has many fathers and both Cycle and BNSW are busy taking credit. It appears Cycle got the ball rolling with a petition of over 10k signatures, with BNSW closing the deal. Bicycle Network was in there making noise.

Interesting that Cycle is happy to share credit while BNSW CEO Craig Maher makes no mention.

Glenfield to Wedderburn trail proposal

Thought I'd put this here.

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/newslocal/macar...

There is a petition opposing this proposal, so there is also the one below supporting it.

Get it out to as many friends as possible!

the need for a Peak trail building body and National standards survey

NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.

MTBA have releeased 3 options papers on the development and implementation of a National standard for Trail building, Trail builders accreditation and the formation of a peak body . The discussion papers and a survey can be found here

My personal opinion is it's bureaucracy for bureaucracy sake and that in such a large and diverse country the 1 standard fit all approach is unworkable.

It's also a lot of money to develop a Standard when we already have the IMBA guidelines.
