I think the same way
For racing, the lighter faster rolling but more expensive & less durable wheel set goes on along with the carbon post & Ti saddle, my shock pressure goes up 10 - 20% depending on where & how long I'm riding.
All quickly changed & I immediately go faster.... Well in my head I do.
I do know for sure that I'd be way slower without my placebo/go faster ritual/crutch.

Yeah I've just has a bike fit done by Blair Martin and I'm still getting acclimatised, but i feel faster already. Gave some guys some stick on the hardtail up Parrawi Rd this morning... a little Commuter Cup Racing
Big wheels are on the shopping list for later this year. Tax refund cheque plus a litrle eBay selling to fund it.
In the meantime going up to a 2.25 on the rear will have to suffice.
Wow The single swing arm on the front looks amazing. I'm sure it probably has a few structural drawbacks but small price to pay. I feel the same about the ducati rear single swing arm on the 748-916... Amazing looking piece of equipment!

You know that the lefty came about as a result of Cannondale's conventional looking but heavy square section downhill fork from the 90s. This had needle rollers rather than bushings & was super stiff but way too heavy for XC use so (as rumour has it) they tried one side only and it worked well.
History lesson over.
BTW, did anyone have a go on the electronically damped RAVEN?

I still have my top spec Carbon Raven, with the triple crown lefty and righty. I can tell you the front fork is bombproof! Its also very heavy. Very strange to have it on the front of a carbon framed setup! Very front heavy! Still - as i posted a few weeks ago, the most comfy bike ive ever ridden! More to the point - Tony - no i havent ridden the elo damped Raven...
And not to hijack the thread...
hawkeye - yes leftys are cool. You get so used to them that you cant turn right... Cough cough - ive got the black lung...
My bike will be getting a race guise soon too. At the moment its set up as a police bike... with flashing lights for people that come past yelling strava!!!
Might be funny if it wasnt true... might post pics after tonights night ride...
@Black Flash: Stop the sandbagging, you are one fuckin' fast S.O.B.!
Almost caught me the other night at the TH night ride on the Perimeter straights. I have to speak to the team ...we have to offer you a higher salary to win you over to our Mont 'Big Test Icicles' team (this year in Brady Bunch guise). But with that comes all the liability of riding with the stars....

Riding with me puts you in the "Danger Zone"...
If i ride with your Brady Bunch, who will be my Kelly McGillis? (the fact that she is now 55 we'll ignore and for this reference she needs to be as hot as she was in 1986)
Do you want to be Ice Man or Goose? If my memory serves me correctly, you would be better off being Iceman...
Either way, the Mont will "Take my breath away..."

Obviously only guy's (gals) of a certain age (vintage) will get this thread.
I may be mixing the Raven front end up with the pro flex/girvin one re the electronic control, regardless I remember the Raven being a mad but fairly bulky carbon affair.
Next we'll be talking San Andreas, Fat Chance & Hannebrink....
Maybe the Raven now deserves it's rightful Lefty??
..looks like the weapon for the Team hot lap at the Mont.... except the wheels aren't big enough...

Its stiffer and stronger than an equivalent normal fork?
Dual crown plus big diameter tube plus cast bolt up axle helps the bike go where you point it over the rough stuff.

Does that mean the ban has been lifted by the other half?
The bike can look the goods - but the pilot (crash test dummy) is still not allowed to "race". More a swift social pace....

It's a generation gap...
People used to drool over this Klunker:
I could do exactly that to mine and probably get it close to 10kgs...
Just need a spare carbon lefty... Anyone????
My son just asked, "WHAT is THAT?!
Is awesome!
