Looking at having something web-based soon... This translates to Rob allowing scumming to be affiliated with NoBMoB and of course waving his magic wand to create/extend the platform...
There is a growing number of NoBMoBers that are training on the road, so hopefully there will be 1 or 2 regular groups soon.
PS - Shano, we should meet up even if it's just at the top of Brooklyn.
Rob,
Maybe we should have a poll on whether a seperate scummer section should be set up and we should also have a competition on what to call them. Here are my entries;
You need to ride on the road to train for riding in the bush ????????
Here's a thought why don't you ride in the bush to train to ride in the bush !
1. no cars to run you over
2. no carbon monoxide/benzine to breath in
3. nice views
4. no need to scare children with all that lycra
5. no need for those ballet slippers
oh thats right its hard to find a latte in the bush.
Yes Rob you need to start a new web site for the crossover riders . lol
Some will say scumming is required 'cos they stay nice and clean and can maintain a more consistent HR. Well, if you want that stay in the gym or on the wind trainer as it's a damn sight cleaner, dryer and safer than the road. If you have the trainer in front of a TV or with a good book it's also more entertaining.
Plus, use the gym or pool and you also get great cross training benefit.

I swim each weekday morning and do 1km and this really does make me a better rider, in preparation for the weekend.
I ride a 20km round trip as my daily commute, even if it rains. Thankfully my commute doesn't involve horribly busy roads and I'm a shift worker so I don't bare the brunt of peak traffic. This also makes me a better rider, in preparation for the weekend.
Most weekends, both days, I ride in the bush and put in about 20km each day, usually with the dog as company. So she gets 40km of exercise each weekend as I'm too lazy to walk her and I dislike walking anyway and she dislikes being on a lead.
I ride where ever possible to avoid using my car, even all the way out to the burbs to visit my parents, a distance of 100km return. I'm a bit anal about not driving and a tank usually lasts five weeks and my record is ten weeks.
Road riding isn't all that bad and is sometimes a real joy. Just try riding through the RNP, on the road, to Stanwell Tops on a very early weekend morning...it's really nice.
Sometimes road riding is simpler as the road is just outside my front door.
But the bush will always hold the best joy...
If we dont have road riders
who is going to annoy the road cars
mtbers are currently enjoying annoying the 4wd fraternity
hahahahah
i vote we get the scummers off here and onto their own site
no more tour de ponce talk either
hahahaha
if you like the sensual feel of a tight material against your skin
please do it in you own private world and not in the public domain
wont somebody please think of the children
ok im ducking into the bunker ready for the barage
And the inner tubes over the shoulders double as a handy(ish...) sling in case you break a collarbone, as even todays ambos would struggle up some of the roads they rode!
The original tour director, a Msr Desgrange I believe, was a true sadist, his idea of the perfect tour was to have the winner being the only competitor to finish !
It's no wonder they were doping/boozing even back then...
been looking for but cant find an old photo that stuck in my mind of all the riders on the startline of a stage with cigarettes in thier mouths! apparently they used to think that smoking was actually good for sportspeople as it made you cough and bring up phlem, thus clearing your chest!!!!!

Here's a shot from back when scumming was acceptable and lattes were outlawed in favour of more suitable in-ride hydration:
Have you been following the threads on NoBMoB lately?
They weren't scummers in 1921, they were real men who drank beer and wine for hydration and rode single speeds over the mountains.
They must be turning in their graves at the current scummers with their lattes, lycra and shaved legs.
The roads aren't even that smooth, kind of like a really easy fire trail
And the inner tubes over the shoulders double as a handy(ish...) sling in case you break a collarbone, as even todays ambos would struggle up some of the roads they rode!

I do it now. No sooner have I pulled into the drive post ride and I have a coldie on the go. The first one doesn't even touch the sides...
