Centre Track - South west

The fire trail behind the information sign at the intersection of McCarrs Ck Rd and top of the Akuna Bay road used to be marked on Google Earth as part of the Centre Track running up to Terry Hills. It has recently been cleared. Which sparked my curiousity, does it actually connect to the Terry Hills end? Is it ridable? If anyone knows the answers it would be appreciated. Thanks

I noticed some work in this area yesterday. Thought nothing of it and will check out the map for info.

You can see on satellite pics a firetrail running West from this junction - is that the one you're talking about? Why don't you go take a look?

FWIW it looks like they are also clearing a firetrail along the West side of Coal and Candle Drive. Looks like this is being done to lay a water pipe along. This road slopes gentle down to the North, would be a cracker to ride up/down and there's some nice rocks in the area. They has been some recent fire in the area so it's probably being done now as trail building is easy peasy after fires.

I have ridden down there

It goes down to a tidal creek, its ok as Rob says for a down and an up

Just a word of warning- if the track doesn't appear on the hard copy NPWS map as a fire trail - bikes permitted -it isn't legal and you will be booked, no matter how many items of earthmoving equipment etc you meet on the way down. Thats the rule

... just because it's even marked as a firetrail doesn't mean it's legal riding.

For it to be legal riding NPWS have to have mapped it as such. Go to your nearest NPWS office/ranger station and ask for a copy of said map.

This is a shame because NPWS are... how should I put this... erm... not the best at updating their maps. Given this I follow the rule: If it's wide enough to drive down and there isn't a "No bikes" sign then it's fair game. This is just me personally and this is not any sort of official policy.
