new National Parks booklet

managed to have a quick squiz through the new National Parks booklet this morning at work(a box of them broke open in front of me) & was astonished to see Glenrock State Conservation Park has no mention of Mtb or the little symbol to show it is allowed-whats going on?

Same news all over the state! Sad

Even though we have to battle and beg and jump through hoops to gain or even just keep access to parks... the department then 'forget' to tell everyone in the booklets they produce about recreational activities. Just check out their website too - it's a disgrace.

I would say that due to this unfortunate lack of official documentation the only people who realise what riding opportunities there are in parks are locals. This results in lack of tourism relating to bike riding (have a look at the stats in their discussion paper).

Shows how far there still is to go with advocacy efforts Sad

If the NPWS are not listing legal trails on their website or printed materials is it any wonder people are confused and illegally use trails?

@ben... yup - you hit the nail on the head there.

but not one mention of MTB let alone the the word 'cycling'-very bad form NPWS-feel free to ask about any more parks as I have book at home with me.

It could come down to when the booklet was designed and the status of the park at that point in time. Given the money that NPWS are sinking into the glenrock trails, I can't see there being any form of conspiracy to hide the fact they are there.

@sammydog... I'm not so sure. For the web site, positive as that can be changed at short notice and should always include the latest information.

I wrote to NPWS about their Ku-ring-gai leaflet probably 3-4 years ago and it's still not showing all the riding AFAIK. In some areas there just isn't the will to include bike riders. Despite a lot of talk what you see on the ground in Sydney North really isn't up to the support give to cycling in other areas. I'm sorry if there are any NPWS staff reading this that take offence at that, but instead of getting angry, take it as a challenge to prove the statement is wrong.

As Sammy said. they are proving it wrong by sinking money into the park.

On a side note. Do we really want wide exposure?? we already have heaps of traffic, I kind of like the solitude/alternate sport part of MTB.

I say let em keep sinking money and resources into Grock, and lets keep it for ourselves.

The official NPWS website is a source of frustration for parks staff. It's often not up to date on a lot of fronts.

I don't subscribe to any sinister conspiracy theory here.
