Is Tathra the best holiday mtb destination?

I guess we are talking about the best destination that won't generate suspicion in the family that riding is the only reason you are there! Yes there are other better pure mtb places but for a family holiday or holiday with a partner is there any better NSW summer destination?:

Tathra is a great little town on the south coast with great beaches. The far south coast has the lowest rainfal of the NSW coast so a good chance of being dry.

Within minutes of the centre of town there are two mtb loops: The "pooh trail" near the treatment plant which has about 120 m of climbing for the 6 km loop. The trail winds its way up the hill before a long decent. The climb is punctuated by about a dozen gully dips, and the decent has some tight bends so a good time will need finesse and fitness. The trail near the water tank is pure fun (this trail will be used for the time trial for the Tathra enduro prologue) covering a similar m of climbing but the climbing and ascending is mixed so you dont notice the work rate. Dont bring wide bars as they both have pretty narrow sections through the trees. The tank trail is about 8 km.

About 15 minutes drive away is Manna Park which is more technical with some rock gardens, and Mendini resort which also has its own XC loop as well as archery and golf ect. In some years we have been able to race at Bermagui (dirsurfers enduro) and there is the Bega to Beach bike bash in January (30 km with 500 m climbing).

The town has a great pub and restuarants (Fat Tonys is the go, but there are others, dry stone at mimosa rocks if your partner likes it fancy).

Anyone else know of anywhere else on the coast which is a great cycling destination and also a great summer holiday destination?

Newcastle isn't bad. You've got Glenrock a ten minute ride from town, and Awaba not far away.

Plus beautiful beaches and some decent pubs and cafes.

I spent a week down there over Chrisy New year, all the single track was a real blast. It all flowed realy well & should be heaps of fun to race on.The last day I had down there I ran into some guys from the local mtb club who were just starting the extensions to almost double the single track.Definitelyworth the trip down from Northen Beaches.
Pack the surfboard wife and kids for the downtime

My wife automatically assumes I'll be taking the bike wherever we go. It's good, I get to pi**-off for the day and she get's some peace and quiet. It's a win-win for our house.
