Scott scale 20 - don't do it

Just to let people know my experience with Scott bikes; snapped my carbon scale frame at the chainstay yesterday in a completely limp wipeout i.e., steel, ti or aluminium would not have been damadged. Ok it may have been a freak occurance, but given the cost of the frame it's an expensive one. Sadly, the best Scott would offer me was 10% off the R.R.P. which means I could buy another of their sub-standard frames at the mere cost of £1170. To be honest I'm slightly relieved, as I didn't much like bruising my colon evertime I took the thing out - it's the most uncomfotable bike I've ridden, and that was with a carbon post (comes stock with an aluminium post, OUCH!). If you're thinking about one of these bikes, think twice.

and have used them for races like Dirtworks, the Scott, the Mont, Angry Doctor etc. One rides a Scott Scale 20 2007 model and the other a 2009 Scott Scale RC.

I have been riding the Scott Spark 10 for 3 years, including all the races, countless laps of Manly dam, Red Hill etc and love the bike. I am sorry to hear of your issues, but can't agree that the bikes or frames are crap.

I find your post a bit suspicious. Why would you sign up to a forum just to bag out this brand?

Got any pictures of this broken frame?

Scott works for me, I just did the Rocky trail 6+6 several club races and and even the Highland fling on an up spec Scale 35 no problems yet. The only things I wear out are tyres and drivetrains.

I have been riding a Scott Genius MC40 for the last 3 years and its a great bike. It has been to Red Hill, Manly Dam, Dirtworks, Canberra, Ourimbah XC and DH, Angry Doctor, Coffs, Lithgow and plenty of others. If I had the funds I would be the new Genius. I also ride a Scott Speedster road bike for when the tracks are too wet.

So I completely disagree with you comments.

Cheers
Evan

Sorry about your experience there satyroi but this is probably the wrong forum to be expressing yourself. The fact you mention you paid £ for your bike is Greek to most members of this Sydney Australia based forum where we understand Aussie dollars - with the exception of all of those poms who have seen the light and moved here.

Our local distributor of Scott bikes would most likely not be the same one you have had your experience with.

did you sign up to this forum just to say that you crashed your bike, broke it, and scott wouldnt pay for your new one?

Saytori, probably best if you take your thoughts and bury them under the 10 metres of snow you mob have copped over the last 3 months. This site is used for constructive feedback and sharing genuine, valuable information not for people just wanting to have a crack at something. I don't even ride a Scott but your comments aren't valued on this site.

Probably should have asked the retailer what help they would have been in fixing a cracked frame when you bought it? That is always useful information. Local Sydney shops have historically been helpful in getting riders back on their bikes asap. I have numerous riding friends that have had broken frames fixed for free, like Santa Cruz, Yeti, Ibis.

I own three Scott bikes and by and large I have not been impressed with the way my matters have been dealt with in the last few years. I bought a Scale 50 (2008) brand new from a bike shop out west, long standing establishment etc etc. As I was getting ready to sell the frame I realised there was a decent sized crack on the rear drop out. I dropped the frame off before Christmas (2009) and it was well over 6 months before I finally received a warranty replacement. I rang the shop every second week and word always was "Scott is the problem, I am trying to sort this out". I'll never know who was stuffing around, but I don't understand how the bike shop could be at fault once the frame was handed over. In the end they gave me a Scale 40 (2009) model. Currently a draw on service.

The second matter which is incredibly frustrating is the hard headed approach Scott (or their distributor) now have to their bikes. I was recently at a well known bike store on the north shore and I mentioned a problem with the lockout on my rear shock on the Genius 50. I said to the guys I think I might need to take this to a Scott dealer, can you see if you can fix this. They rang up Scott and were told if they removed the rear shock and posted it in, it would be posted back without being looked at. Seriously, if anyone working for Scott reads this forum you need to understand how incredibly frustrating the new dogmatic policy is. If I have to choose a brand of bike or a bike shop who can fix my bike I will choose the shop OVER THE BRAND every day. Another way to say this is once I sell the Genius I have no plans to buy a Scott bike every again until such time as they wake up to the fact that the customers keep them in business and you can't keep treating us like idiots.

Hey Pratters,
Having worked for places that stock scott and also owning a scott myself I can confirm to you that it's not actually the shops but scott that are the problem in Australia. The new Avanti + guys might have better stock access but getting new parts and frames from scott is a pure pain. I had to wait 4 months for a replacement lockout for a scott spark. They have to import stuff from switzerland cause its not kept in Australia and they are a bit slow at that.

I crashed my car and apparently that's not claimable under warranty either... Cars suck!

I mean seriously most manufacturers I've dealt with are keen to sort genuine warranty issues as quickly as possible (Yeah sometimes it takes a while as thing just arn't in stock) but warranty is to cover manufacturing defect not rider error and some sort of defacto crash replacement.

You crashed. It broke. Deal with it

I guess at least you admitted to wiping out. Most people are Just Riding Along
