...good cycling stats on number of cyclists in Sydney/Australia etc. I am trying to get some funding from work for cycling kit, better facilities for those of us who commute etc. I am looking for data on both commuter numbers as well as number of cyclists in general (as kit can be worn on weekend rides).

Any help appreciated!!

Have a look at the Cycling Promotion Fund resource page:

http://www.cyclingpromotion.com.au/resources/

Also at Retail Cycle Traders Australia:

http://www.rcta.org.au/

I also found, "Cycling and Transport Policy in NSW Briefing Paper No 8/2010 by Daniel Montoya", it states:

According to ABS journey to work data, 0.72% of all trips to work in 2006 in the Sydney Greater Metropolitan Area (or 13,784 trips) were undertaken by bike...

There is a large amount of variation between Local Government Areas (LGA) in the Greater Metropolitan Area. Wollondilly has the
lowest rate of cycling, at 0.13%, while Marrickville has the highest rate at 2.47

Hey Chitts – given who you work for the facilities should be a breeze (  ) to get. As for kit, well aren’t they busy buying other stuff?

As for stats, I think anything will be out of date. This year I believe there has been a big increase. Post the Crimbo holidays the numbers spiked, and have stayed high – great stuff. Even on Monday where I only expected to see 2 or 3 people on the bridge in the rain, there were at least a dozen. I did not see you though… Problem of course is that this is all antidotal. Do not forget to apply the ESG factor. ESG is becoming an increasing main street issue in our industry. So tell them the IR guys will love this, the building gets better rating, the company gets better rating, the staff are happier and the only losers are their competitors who can no longer attract the best talent…… Plus you are a UNPRI signatory – so walk the talk.

.... I rode in on Monday and the only day I did not ride in to work in the last few years was that day when there was the red haze of dust. Rain, heat, wind etc don't scare me off Smiling

I think we will get the kit. I sold it on the logo for the shirts of "working towards a greener tomorrow" and mentioned that while some companies pay substantial amounts for guys to ride around on scooters pulling mobile billboards to advertise, I was preapard to arrange for a far greater number of people to do it for a pretty low one off charge Eye-wink

Good stuff on the kit. I like the story.

Now just for some facilities to stop you drying your kit under your desk. Surely that is an OHS issue.

Acronyms – the life blood of our industry!
