Although I am not a Specialized fan boy, damn... they are nice looking bit hit bikes. The forks look particularly meaty. I could compromise my principles for one of those.

Someone keep Gazza off the pages... we could end up with a mess here Laughing out loud

Looking at the 08 bikes I think Specialised are heading into an extremely disastrous change for change sake period that when all the warranty claims are settled could see a return to the 06 models!

Take a look here:

This says the headset is 1 1/8" at the top and 1 1/2" at the bottom. What a very, very silly idea!

Oh, and it says the internals of the fork are all contained in one side!

From both the above, clearly they want to go lefty but don't have the bolls and have ended up half way there in both these specs Eye-wink

The tapered headtube is not that bizzare, check out the Giant Glory, they run a similar system.
It's all about strength versus weight.
On the Stumpjumper you can install a special sleeve and then any standard 11/8" fork will fit.
I think your going to be had pressed to find a similar weight "production" bike out there.
I want one!

What is Specialized doing integrating the fork into the frame? They look to be following their road bike designs in the usage of more proprietary parts.

The only thing that is good about the '08 Stumpy is the colour scheme. Just.

Lefty smefty. Maybe they kept the fork as a double legged design to ensure compatibility with more wheelsets?

That is one awesome looking bike, if I were in the market for a new bike the new stumpy or enduro would be very hard to go past!

My first concern with the new models is the proprietary suspension components, how good will their servicing department be? As far as I know there is no one doing it in this country yet!

My other dislike is the brake mounting to the front fork, I currently use the marta's on my stumpy & they bolt up directly to the fox fork, no bracket required.

As for the headset, I can only see this as a step forward in creating a stiffer/stronger frame/fork package. Just look at some of the big freeride bikes they nearly all come with 1 1/2 or combination of 1 1/2 & 1 1/8.

After saying all that, I will be keeping my current bike for some time to come.
