Austria's Markus Stoeckl, 33, set a new world record at the weekend for series mountain bikes on a renovated high-speed La Parva run in the Chile's Alps when he hit a speed of 210.4 km/h (130.7 mph). He shattered an eight-year-old record by an incredible 23 km/h (14 mph).

Haha, yeah the volcano ride/attempt from a couple of years ago was pretty violent. Bike basically fell apart underneath him at terminal velocity. Big ups to Intense with their new M6 (this was a stock one too, not specifically manufacturered for the task)...is there a better way to promote your new DH sled than to smash the bicycle land speed record? I think not.

---edit---
...actually just watched the vid again - are they running carbon Easton bars on that thing?!

I also really like this from the pinkbike article:
"The planning for the trip to Chile was so hurried that I ended up having to use my street shoes for the world record run."
