Spring Cycle, who did it?

Did my first Spring Cycle yesterday. What a great day out! Tweaked a couple of things on the hardtail and bought some hybrid tyres for the ride.

Having the Cahill Expressway closed to cars for the morning was great, as were all the marshals scattered through the burbs. Thank you one and all.

Had a great time apart from busting a chain (twice) and having to wait around for the bike shop to open. MC Cyclery are the bomb! Thank you guys for getting me going ASAP. (OTOH the other mob down Clarence St will never see 1c of my money after yesterday's attitude... )

So, after a 2 hr tech stop I got rolling again and caught the tail enders. Put the hammer down and made it to the finish in just over 2 hours and caught up with the team.

I'll be back.

[Mod. moved to chat, although this really should be on road.nobmob.com & might get moved again]

Yeap, I did it with my 2yo daughter in a trailer (she only did it till the first stop). Was good fun, looking forward to do it again next year!

Did it with my 10 yr old so the pace was 'relaxed' (3:17 moving time). I had the HRM strap from the garmin on him so I could watch his HR from my bike and not blow him up, amazing how quickly they shoot up to max (199bpm) on a slight slope but then how quickly it drops off again.

He was buggered but proud at the end and slept very well last night. In all a great day out and we'll be back again next year

Yeah I did it yesterday.

Turned up late started at 10 mins after 7am. did it just under 2hrs. Never ridden that far before (on road).

A lot of people but well worth it, great views and it was organised very well.

Will do again next year.

Hey Danny, that's a great idea. I'm guessing you needed to be quite close tho. Any idea about the range of ANT? (Don't want to hijack the thread but happy to discuss this in another)

I'm as interested as anyone. Great idea.

HRM straps work from miles away. I can setup my bike on the trainer with computer on it (in the lounge), then go get changed (in the bedroom) and hear the computer beep as I put my HRM strap on. This is would have to be at least 10m away.

ANT+ with an Edge 500. Do some tests - I think you would be surprised.

The racing at SOP at the finish of the Spring Cycle was pretty cool, there was some decent prize money so some good riders turned up. My 9yo raced and also my 16 yo - who sprinted past half the field in C grade to get 2nd and score a very nice pair of bont shoes.

Had an entry, but did a stupid thing last weekend. Anyway, good news: no surgery needed. Smiling

On the HRM strap: with a fresh battery the range is excellent. Mine picks up when on the bike in the back yard when I put my strap on in the lounge room at the front of the house, and that with the battery at 18 months old. That would be 10-15 metres?

One of the guys (andyfev?) on our Camden River ride earlier this year commented he was picking up somebody's HRM strap on his Edge 500 - was probably mine.

Congrats to your young bloke Al, he's a whippet! Smiling

I had to stay reasonably close to him, say about 5-7m, which wasn't a problem 99% of the time. I got better range if I was behind him rather than in front, I guess because my body is more solid than his (by about 50kg). In all it worked very well although the strap is a bit uncomfortable for him, I had it wrapped twice around his puny little chest to get it to work Smiling One of the premium straps would no doubt be a better fit
