Ortlieb products no longer available from Wiggle

I happened to notice on Wiggle last week that their usual fine stock of Ortlieb products had suddenly disappeared. I received an email response to my question about this stating that Wiggle is no longer able to ship Ortlieb to Australia for "... legal reasons... " They are still selling Ortlieb within the UK, so it would be possible to re-direct them with a 3PL.

If anyone happens to come across the next best priced store for Ortlieb products please share this on the forum (that doesn't involve a 3PL).

Its an increasing trend - CRC will no longer ship Mavic or Topeak products to Australia.

As us consumers buy more online from overseas because of the large price difference, Australian distributors put pressure on the manufacturers to protect their 'patch'.

Personally, I just end up buying other brands, and if others do the same, I don't think the Australian distributors will benefit from this strategy in the long run.

I can live without Topeak and Mavic. Unfortunately there's few products on the market to rival the quality of Ortlieb bags.

Granted, when I do buy my next Ortlieb product I simply can't justify paying 2.5 times as much as what Wiggle would have sold it to me for.

The German online retailers haven't succumbed to the ban on Oz imports yet. Both Bike24 www.bike24.net and RoseBike http://www.roseversand.com/ do Ortlieb bags, will still ship to Australia, and they're cheaper than Wiggle!

I've used Bike24 a number of times, but not Rose, but they both have a good solid reputation among the Euro biking community, just not so well known in Oz.

$434 I was quoted locally by Chain Reaction Cycles in Cronulla for a set of their Back Roller Classic bags that cost me less than $140 from Wiggle. Ortlieb can take a flying leap.

There's other product out there of similar quality. I might pay a tiny little bit more for it than $140, but I'll still save enough to make it worthwhile. It's Ortlieb's loss as far as I'm concerned.

The gap between local RRP and Wiggle funded most of my Garmin 705 when I got my property damage payout from the hater's insurance company early 2010.

If Garmin local pricing can be competitive with offshore, why can't other brands?

cyclingexpress.com.au do ortlieb bags for prices competitive with wiggle. and they are aussie based.

RoseBike have an incredible selection of products, including lots of items I'd never seen before. Time to start saving!

Just need to be aware there's no free shipping with the German online retailers, so you need to consolidate a few things into one order to spread the cost of shipping. Its only 20 Euros or so for most orders tho', and as they are cheaper than CRC & Wiggle it doesn't take much to recoup the shipping and still come out cheaper...
