After the cramp infested Fling - I decided to get fitter and better prepared. Race briefing said the waterbars were nasty - check.
The race kicked off at a fast pace and found myself in a pack of riders and Black Flash doing 50 kp/h seemed easier when your part of a peleton. Up the big hill decided to jump off and walk 2/3rds when I realised I was riding as slow as the walkers and just ripping up my heart rate - so decided to preserve myself for the rest of the race. After the hill finally got into a rhythm and paired up with another rider until the feed station. Then picked up the pace feeling good but felt a twinge of cramps and so decided to roll down the hills to get my heart rate down. Black flash was out in front and coming down the last big hill and oh no.....he was on the ground after a major crash. A Dr thankfully was coming down the mountain a few mins later and took a look and advised they had no radio reception and I needed to get help fast. With that I was off - stopping at the bottom to raise the alarm with the fire truck crew and then hauling into town. A couple of wheel suckers stuck to me with only one pulling a turn at the front so got cranky and dropped em.
Got in just after 2 hrs and then went to get an ambulance and Heli organised for Heath. I will let Black Flash blog when he is recovered about his race but he should be ok in a while.
So.... happy with my time, BUT upset for Heath, very Cranky re lack of emergency radio reception, the fact they set up tents on the towns official helipad which delayed the medi-vac by an hour while they cleared cows and sorted lat/longs for a landing and the fact the race organiser dude didn't seem to give a shit about anything.

That was Black Flash on the deck. He looked in a bad way. I was in a group of 4 and we were first on scene. It was on the steepest decent and the two lead guys couldn't stop in time. Me and another guy managed to slow down enough to make a stop. He stayed with him whilst I knew the best thing I could was to go raise the alarm so I grabbed his race no and sped off down the hill. I spoke to race officials at the road to call in for an ambo or heli (had no idea they had no radio) The other rider grabbed me at the finish (he was a firey so had to stop) to tell me that the 4WD we passed earlier on the downhill had a dr aboard and that his on scene diagnosis was fractured collar bone a couple of broken ribs and a punctured lung. I hope it's not as bad as that and you make a speedy recovery Heath.

Thats terrible news about Black Flash. Here's hoping for an overly pessimistic initial diagnosis and a speedy recovery.

Apart from that...hope you enjoyed the race, GiantNut.

I was on that final descent and came across a group of 4 with a downed rider. The guy was still unconscious when I left. Didn't grab his number as others were there but flew to the bottom carefully and told the fireys. It was around the 36k mark and a few of water bars down.

Hope that guy is alright and hope your mate recovers well too.
