I did the Convict 50km last weekend (loved it) and will be doing the Husky 50 end of June. Can anyone tell me what I can expect in comparison to the Convict? Hopefully when I get a few more of these under my belt, I won't have to keep asking for everyones advice.....

haha, i have also entered this as my 2nd 50km race, so you can expect me to be riding faster!!! otherwise, there seems to be less people, more single trail, more sand, but that is what i have learnt from my research, i am sure someone here actually knows!

More single track and less hills.

It is really flat, potentially really fast, tail end of the 50 gets blasted by the 100km on the way back in. Self seeded start, in waves. Super friendly event. I did it as my first race last year. It rained all night and the entire course was a bog by the next day, waist deep in places, so not sure what it will be like dry....Totally doable and there are no real hills, they have a king of the mountain so there is a hill....I remember one steepish hill from last year fire trail and not difficult. I trained from no MTBing experience to the Husky in 6 weeks.....finished absolute last in 5 hours so you know.....There were times in the 2 hour zone, they must have had the power of hover craft....I think it is a cakewalk in comparison to the convict but I haven't done that race...See you there.

Last years Husky (100) was my first time too and unfortunately it was a very muddy affair. TBH I didn't find the conditions all that enjoyable but things definitely improved in the latter half. Fingers crossed things work out this year and I get to see the place at its full potential.

Its a mix of fire trail and club track style single track. The 100 seemed to have plenty of single track compared with other marathons. No real hills to speak of. Cant remember anything being particularly steep, tech or tricky.

Much smaller event than Convict 50/100. Only around 300 starters in the 100 last year (albeit rain affected) which is about half of the Convict field. They send you off in very small start groups so it doesn't choke up on the first bit of single track.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like it will all depend on the conditions, wet or dry, so lets hope it's the latter! The Convict was a pretty fast race, even though it had some hills, there were a lot of very fast down hill sections, so I am thinking that the Husky may be a similar time, if dry!
Good luck and see you there!

Yeh I had a look at the numbers too, much smaller than the Convict, maybe cause it hasn't been going for as long.
I am looking forward to the event, such a beautiful part of the East coast, one of my favourite places.
See you there

Is the Husky sold out yet. Looking to do the 50km but am a bit strapped for cash at the moment. Hoping tickets last a little longer.

So you have a wee while to decide

and even if it does sell out, typically there are plenty of entries on Rotorburn in the week or two leading up to the event. I think if you try hard enough and keep your finger on the pulse you would be unlucky not to score a late entry into any of the big events.
