Workshop Training - Feedback

Thought I would share a great experience which may be of interest to others!

Last night I did a 3 hour 'workshop' with Jordan at Ride in Workshop ( www.rideinworkshop.com.au )

Being quite mechanically minded, but relatively new to MTB'ing at a serious level, it was awesome to work through the whole bike with Jordan, looking at all aspects of set-up, maintainence, repair, and recommendations on parts etc.

I've got no connection other than being very impressed with the service etc.

I suppose it's given me two things:
1) the confidence and knowledge to tackle a lot more myself rather than going to LBS (and we found a few things LBS had done badly and needed correcting!)
2) the knowledge to understand when certain areas may need professional attention before they are beyond repair - I will certainly be heading Jordan's way when I need help in the future!

"his prices are way to high"... Sorry Budboy but I completely disagree... I've started taking my bike to him this year after a LBS charged me over $400 for a bike strip down and rebuild (granted, new XT cassette fitted). After the pleasure of waiting nearly two weeks for this privilege arm robbing service I had the pleasure of my front wheel not rotating on the first ride... I hadn't ridden the bike since getting it back from them. Anyway, I called the LBS and they seemed to be dumb struck and I didn't fancy them "taking a look" and charging me again.

A friend of mine knows Jordon very well and recommend him to me. I turned up unannounced in his shop late one evening and he took the bike off me there and then and had it stripped and rebuilt again with 48 hrs and replaced the headset as it was broken... Which I knew was broken and had asked the LBS to investigate. They said they had fixed it but when your handle bars don't rotate properly there is still an issue. Anyway, getting a little lost in my story here but basically Jordon charged me less than half the price of the other LBS and did a fantastic job. The bike rode like knew again... He replaced all cables, housing, 2 chainrings, replaced the headset and regressed everything. All for a very reasonable price.

Jordon works incredibly hard to deliver a great service and unlike bike stores doesn't rely on products to buffer his profits. End of the day I support this LBS and think if anything he undercharges... He has bills to pay just like the rest of us.

This is just my experience and opinion but it depends on what you consider "expensive" in order to formulate your own opinions but stating his prices are too high on a forum such as this could be damaging to his business...

I dont know him from a bar of soap and i certainly do not disagree with people making a living but i was just saying that in my opinion his prices listed on his web site seem high compared to what I am currently paying.

It's all good Budboy, my response was perhaps alittle quick of the bat. Like you said, it is all comparative to what you are currently paying and indeed can afford to pay. I can't afford many trips to the LBS so when I do take it to Jordon I know that I'm getting good value for money. Unlike my other experience in which over $400 of my hard earned cash went on a rubbish service experience that was originally quoted to be in the low $200 mark.

Apologies if my comments were aggressive it wasn't my intention Eye-wink

$90 to service my Rockshox SIDs including oil and seals, plenty of other places will charge close to $200 for that
$110 for a service on my retro roadie including purchase and fitting of a new headset, cables and a couple of other bits

Had Jordan do a couple of things to my bike this week. This included fitting a new cassette, chain, chain rings, fix a broken spoke, adjust brakes etc. he also fixed up a few other things where I didn't even know there was a problem.

Rode the bike last night and I don't think it has ever felt better.

All that for WELL less than $100 is pretty good value to me. I'll be going back.
