Its fine - works well, folds up and sits in a corner. I guess there is better but they would be more expensive.

Do you think it is worth it for the price ? I mean, this is the kind of thing you may use 10 times a year ... and as I am not a professional I am thinking it is enough ... What do you reckon ?

philberesford's picture

For that price absolutely! It'll work great for you I'm sure.

My first kid is on his way and I've been dreaming to be a bus driver for him Smiling

I bought the same one about a year ago.

I use it after most rides for cleaning the bike and all maintenance stuff.

I find it works fine apart from if you have to use the clamp on your seat post rather than under your top tube. When clamped to the seat post, it isn't strong enough to hold the bike level and the bike hangs at an angle. Easy to get round by putting a couple of screws through the clamp base into the stand post.

Dunno mate. I'd want to take a look at it, but the price is pretty good and if nothing else you could always get one for training, just chuck a few 20kg bags of cement in it and go climb some hills.

and works fine for me.

I can't clamp onto the top tube (due to shock in the way) and have to clamp onto post under seat and yes the bike does lean forward with the front wheel down but as I'm mostly at the back with chain etc, no big deal for me.

@ Pete B, could you post a picture of what you've done there please?

Pete B's picture

No problem. I'll have to do it tomorrow as the stand is at work (long story).

I bought the kid's charoit last year for my little girl and I think it's one of the best things I ever bought.

I'd been looking around at what to get and $300 - $500 seemed to be the benchmark ( even looking at online stores). Didn't even know Aldi had these, just shopping there one Sunday and bingo, there they were for $69. Score.

My daughter was 8 months old at the time and she loved it straight away. Very secure seatbelt system, works fine for a single child. Easy connection to the bike. Wheels and tow bar all have quick release for removal etc to help with storage.

My only one gripe ( if I have to have one) is that the whole canopy doesn't fold down flat for storage, but that's all ( and I think that's actually more my wife's complaint than mine).

Safer for the child than a seat on the back of the bike, and perfect excuse for an easy spin of the legs on a Sunday afternoon that doesn't cost you time away from the fam.

Thanks guys for great advice

Thanks for the report Glenn. Great ammo to go back to the wife with.

How about the build quality? How would you rate it? Without seeing one I have concerns over durability of bearings, axels and wheels etc. Can you share your experience there?

Cheers
Phil

Pretty solid welds etc for what it is. Wheels are solid. All good, "fit and forget".

I've taken it down the bumpy/rocky fireroad from the top of Nyrang St to the water a few times and no issues. Little girl just sits there saying "more bumps!" Smiling

And it's skinny enough to fit between the railings on the bridge over the creek at the Hydraulic labs too.

Sorry for the delay in uploading the pic. I forgot to take a picture while I was at work so hopefully this explains what I've done.

Screw number 2 needs to be easy to take out if plan on collapsing the stand to put it away.

ae93gti's picture

Appreciate you taking the time to post, thanks.

Yep, understand now.

While I can't remember what it looks like right now, wonder if you could just drill a small right through either or both points and put a temporary pin through so it would be easy to remove? Will check it out, thanks.

Bought the stand a bit dubious about how solid it would be. Figured worst case I would use the clamp and knock something up out of something more solid.

However really impressed! $40....

Is rock solid clamped to the seat post of my 19kg Demo 8. The front end hangs down a bit but is fine and doesn't touch the ground with 888's.

I didn't try increasing the screw tension to keep it level as this is a lot of torsion to apply 19kg through the few plastic parts.

ae93gti's picture

I was exactly the same regarding how solid it is and yes, it is good and solid.

You're right though, the knobs are pretty useless if you wind them on too tight and just spin on the bolt.

I'm going to modify mine a bit with a drill (check above posts) and a pin or two so they don't rotate.

Runo's picture

Got mine today. Same I am not sure about the plastic knob lifetime but there is always a way to make it stronger.
The feet are very strong and heavy.
I have a picture of it and can send it to you (don't know how we share it on the forum Smiling )

Here is mine. I picked one up on the sale weekend a couple of months ago. Considering most retail for $100 I though for $40 it was worth the gamble and has paid off.

I use it after most rides for cleaning and general maintenance. If you screw it up tight the bike will sit but generally the back end tilts down so I have a short stool handy Sticking out tongue Hope this helps guys.

Glad it worked out. Smiling

They've got them on eBay if anyone's interested. They're $59 with free delivery, search 'bike repair stand'

The stands are back in stock at Aldi if anyone is interested. $34.99

I made one…

Some square tubing, a scaffold clip with rubber inside, my grinder and welder. took me a couple of hours. Nothing fancy but simple and easy. Will get round to giving it a nice coat of paint soon.

tried to put a photo of it up here but can't work out how to do it??

Discodan's picture

I picked up an Aldi one today but haven't opened it yet. The thing that attracted me is that it had a fitting that bolts it straight to a wall rather than being free standing, perfect for the garage where I can use it both for maintenance and for storing a bike on the wall
