In regard to the article on ABC News online, any idea of which trails will inaccessible?

A large section of Newcastle's Glenrock State Recreation area is set to be closed to bike riders, to reduce environmental damage.

Glenrock ranger Tiffany Knott says now that a two year, $80,000 upgrade of the mountain bike tracks in the northern section is nearing completion, the southern side will be closed to riders in coming weeks.

Ms Knott says it was decided to close illegal and ad-hoc tracks in a section of the park, where damage has occurred to waterways and local wildlife habitat.

"Most of them whether they are old vehicle tracks or old walking tracks or recent mountain bike tracks, all contribute sediment into the creeks and Glenrock lagoon and they're having quite an impact," she said.

"So to rehabilitate them and put them back into habitat is a major conservation win for the park."

Ms Knott says management will educate bike riders about the closure of tracks in the southern section of the park, before issuing fines.

"In the next couple of months, the track that we're working on, the 'shaft track' in the northern part is completed, we'll be starting to close down tracks at Leggy Point and Elvis rock in Glenrock," she said.

Basically everything in glenrock that isn't on the official trail map will be closed.

Its all focused south of the lagoon. So Surfers Walk, Elvis Rock, Dudley area, etc will be officially closed.
