Has anyone used a Bionicon C.Guide V.02 Chain Guide http://bionicon.com/parts/c-guide/c-guide-v02.html#main? The reviews seem to be VERY polarizing, and that says to me that they may not be genuine (insiders or competitors).

I have a Giant Reign which means in order to put a Chain Guide on it I would need to buy one of the Clutch Adapters (http://flowmountainbike.com/2013/01/flows-first-bite-clutch-iscg-chain-guide-adaptor/) as well as the chain guide.

Figured the C.Guide would be a cheaper option.

yes I have one and am happy with it.

When I first had it installed it was a little too far back from the triple ring and I did get one episode of chain suck. I moved it forward and haven't had any problems since. I have never dropped a chain with it on.

It is on a cf hard tail and I got it more to stop the chain slapping the chain stay than anything else. Worth the money in my book, besides, it's another bit of gold bling.

This "review" comes with the warning though that what I ride in a year, most people ride in a month and some in a week.

Yep, I use one on my 5.7C and am happy with it. It's been on there for about 9 months and seems to have stayed! I read some reports before I got one of them being ripped off fairly easily, generally to do with chain tension. I worked out my optimal chain length (Big-Big +2), but added 1 extra (so B-B+3). Any less than that was putting some reasonable strain on the guide at full compression in the easiest gear. No issues so far.

As for retention, I can't comment on the C-Guide v2 individually, as I went from a 2x10, non-clutch derailleur setup, to a 1x10 with top guide, clutch and C-Guide. Certainly no issues with retention with that combo!

But, all of that said, they are bloody expensive! The main reason I bought it was for the look factor, and having the green bits match the rest of my bike. Prior to this I was using 2x bike light seat-mounts - 1 around the chainstay, 1 with the chain running through, joined together at the bolt part. Ghetto as hell, but worked! If the C-Guide ever rips off, I'll be going back to that combo. Cheap and readily available from spares Smiling

Enjoy!
