Hey PixelPaul

I'm based in Newcastle but ride down on the coast at times. Ourimbah state forest is probably the best riding down on the coast. Really good XC trails along with AM and DH race tracks. The DH and AM tracks can be ridden on good trail bikes and if you don't mind a climb you don't have to shuttle. There are some other areas to ride like Kimcumber mountain but I don't really know them, Northern Beaches MTB (http://nobmob.com/) might have some info you could find useful. Further up towards Newcastle is Awaba again really good XC and a full on DH race track but the DH track needs to be shuttled and is quite technical. Them there is a fair bit of riding in Newie but not sure you want to travel that far. Next time I'm down at Ourimbah I can let you know.

hi chris, Ourimbah sounds good, i might check it out. i have been exploring the fire trails up the back of umina the last few days, they are okay.
newcastle is a bit far but i may very well make the trip someday soon to check out the trails up there.
yeah please let me know next time your down, i don't really have anyone to ride with since my girl is out of action at the moment.

Hey Paul

I'm looking to head out to Ourimbah for an XC run on Sunday morning.

I'm just getting into MTB after 15 years off a bike so i'm a little rusty and might lag behind a bit, but if you're keen let me know.

I am in a similar situation. Moved up to the central coast about a month ago, decided to get back into mountain biking after a long break from it but am a bit hesitant on rushing out onto these trails on my own.

I explored some firetrails around Kariong but suffice to say these were less than impressive (majority was loose rocks and sand).

If anyone wants to do a run around ourimbah i would be in.

Feel free to message me.

Anthony

Hi guys, I should be heading up there this saturday, going with the Missus, usually do 1 lap with her then a lap on my own, have to put my bike in for a fork service this week, so I will post up a ride later this week if it all goes well, would probably aim for a 7:30 start, but easy on start time.

Awaba is well signposted with colour-coded loops, and warning signs when you're about to arrive at steep drops. Much harder to get lost in than Ourimbah.

I'd also call it more flowy and less technical than Ourimbah, so if you're just coming back into it after time away and you're concerned bout having an off it would be a better option.

A couple of times at Ourimbah I've forgotten about some of the obstacles, only to arrive at them with no time to brake and no option but to level the bike in flight and try to stick the landing! Good fun, but I prefer to go without being surprised like that. Sticking out tongue I need to get up there again with the the new bike.

Hi,

I live on the Central Coast too, heading to Ourimbah tomorrow morning if you are keen? Also a few of us up here get together ever so often and do rides about the National Parks and local fire trails, keep an eye out for rides on here, you are always welcome to come along, fitness levels and pace vary so if you are slow, fast or somewhere in between you'll be fine.

Cheers

Geoff

You could do a lot worse than tag along on this kind of thing...

Thehairynurse and I had a good ride at Ourimbah this morning, tracks a bit dusty after racing on the weekend but the weather was just perfect, bit of cloud cover, no wind and not to hot.
