So we were thinking about getting one of those bike rack stands that you latch onto your seat post to hang the bike up to make it easy to work on. No having to flip they bike over and work upside down to do gears etc.

Then, the little light bulb shone in blackbetty's dad's head and he decided to back the car into the garage with the bike rack on, and use that. Works a treat apparently.

Yeh, but doesn't everybody work on their bike in the lounge room with the heater and TV on and sipping on a cold one?

This is exactly what I do Smiling

Mind you, in a unit you occasionally get dirty looks from the neighbours, but... meh! Eye-wink

the car bike rack thing doesnt work for all bikes, especially ones that have gear cables running underneath the top tube, as when sitting on the rack the cables do not move when you try and change gears, hence you cant check your gear changes properly.
I got a cheap workstand from torpedo, only about $100 and works perfectly

I would have thought so.

Little nuts, washers and screws dont roll as far when you drop them.

that is the one, it is very basic but for a once in a month adjustment here and there it works fine.
i got it on special when it was $79 or $89, i wouldnt pay $149 for it.
Wait till it goes on special below $100

this seems pretty good too, theres another link i cant remember where a guy rigged something up with 2 bits of wood under the top tube with some soft stuff that worked a treat and is better than im describing it, if i find it ill post it!

Watch out you apartment dwellers...

You are at risk - the concierge might follow you next time you take your bike "upstairs"...

Must be a European thing - check this UK news item: Smiling

"The sheriff reported: "They knocked on the door several times and there was no reply. Then they used a master key to unlock the door"... .
