Tour News - More EPO Doping (Roadie Warning)

First off, those who aren't interested in the Tour, please refrain from regurgitating the old MTB vs Road debate. No one is forcing you to read this...

Just saw on the news that another rider, Riccardo Ricco aka the Cobra has been booted from the Tour (the 3rd in this year's Tour) and resulted in his team (Saunier Duval) withdrawing from the Tour altogether.

What I don't get is that EPO was/is one of the most widely known drugs in cycling and with the testing becoming almost foolproof, what possesses a pro to go down that road, knowing that everything is at stake?
I know that there is immense pressure to perform and obtain results, but to go and win 2 stages and put yourself under even more scrutiny is something I cannot begin to understand.

Hopefully no Aussie appears on the list of shame...

Sram has backed the wrong teams, first Astana now Saunier Duval.

No wonder he powered up those hills so fast!

Shame though to see this happen year after year.

... heat of their boilers must have not helped enough!!

so maybe he thought he wouldn't get caught.

Its hard to understand they would continue to believe they could get away with it what with the blanket testing before the tour, testing throughout and the consequences now which include upto 5 years jail and 75,000euro fine.

I guess it goes to show that the governing body is finally trying to tidy up the image of the Tour. Provided they keep targeting the top 10, no-one really cares whether the other guys are on anything. I'm not one of these guys who believes Australian athletes don't cheat, but I absolutely believe that Cadel is clean. It's a real shame for the race though, I was thoroughly enjoying watching Ricco, Cobo and Piepoli climb. Although none of them can TT, I felt that Ricco was capable of putting real time on Cadel over the Alps which look brutal this year. One thing is for sure, Cadel is now looking that much stronger. I'm confident that he can mix it with Frank and Carlos in the Alps, provided his Silence-Lotto team mates can provide him with the much needed support (yet to be shown). Best to relinquish yellow before the Alps. Bring on Alpe d'Huez.

Many people believe they'll get away with it. Tom Boonen, of all guys, is absent from this years race because he tested positive to cocaine in an internal team test. This shows that some teams are trying to clean the sport up.
Cocaine is in no way a performance enhancer. So he would have to have been out partying with some mates and in a moment of foolishness, accepted an offer of some blow.
Bad decision.
